FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The Northern Arizona University cross country program will send down a group of male and female athletes for the Arizona State Invitational tonight in Phoenix.
It will be a day trip for the Lumberjacks, who will depart from the Walkup Skydome late this morning for the Papago Golf Course, with the women's three mile race set to get underway at 4:20 p.m. and the men's four miler at 5 p.m.
Representing the men's team will be juniors Harvey Nelson and Sean Gregg, sophomores Kyle Havriliak and Ryan Wolff, redshirt-freshman James Fitzgerald and freshman Cade Burks. Nelson did lace them up for the Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational last Friday for the men's 8K open race, finishing with a 26:17 time and 48th-place individual finish.
For the women, redshirt-junior and 2015 All-Conference athlete Paige Gilchrist will run in her second race of the season after getting her legs back under her in the women's 6K open race at Wisconsin last weekend. Redshirt-senior transfer Karina Ernst will also run in her second event of the season tonight, coming off a seventh-place finish at George Kyte to open the year. Senior Carolyn Bethel, redshirt-junior Melanie Zibrat, redshirt-sophomore Maggie Carruth and sophomore Jessie Williams will also compete in Phoenix tonight.
In 2015, both teams earned third-place finishes at this meet.
