NAU Athletics Wins Back-to-Back Big Sky Presidents’ Cup
OGDEN, Utah – For the second straight year, Northern Arizona Athletics has captured the Big Sky Presidents’ Cup presented by Red Lion Hotels. NAU finished first in overall in athletic points for the second consecutive year, in addition to claiming the Big Sky Men’s and Women’s All-Sports Trophies in May.

NAU Captures Men’s and Women’s Big Sky All-Sports Trophy
OGDEN, Utah – Northern Arizona has captured both the men’s and women’s Big Sky All-Sports Trophies, the conference office announced Monday. The Lumberjacks went into the outdoor track championship with the lead, and a sweep by the men’s and women’s teams this past weekend secured NAU the win on both sides. The sweep is the first true sweep by any school since 2000-01.

Ida Nilsson – No. 3 Big Sky Greatest Female Athletes
OGDEN, Utah – Northern Arizona’s Ida Nilsson ranks No. 3 on the Big Sky Conference's list of "25 Greatest Female Athletes.'' The 11-time All-American is one of the most decorated runners in Lumberjack and Big Sky history.

Women’s Tennis and Swimming & Diving Rank in Top 10 Percent
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Northern Arizona women’s tennis and swimming & diving were both honored by the NCAA for earning Public Recognition Awards, based on their most recent multi-year Academic Progress Rate. These awards are given each year to teams with APRs in the top 10 percent in each sport. This is the second straight year women’s tennis has received the honor.

Forty-Three Student-Athletes to Receive Degrees This Weekend
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Forty-three Northern Arizona student-athletes will receive their degrees from the university this weekend as part of the Spring 2014 commencement ceremonies. When adding in the 15 student-athletes who participated in the Fall 2013 commencement ceremonies, the NAU Athletics Department produced a total of 58 graduates for the 2013-14 academic year.

Lumberjacks Walk the Carpet in Night of Celebration
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The Northern Arizona University Student-Athlete Advisory Committee held the inaugural Louies awards show Wednesday night at the Prochnow Auditorium to celebrate the year that was in NAU Athletics. It was a night of celebration, honoring and recognizing all of the Lumberjack student-athletes for their success in the classroom, in competition and in the community.

Jacobsen, Smith Named Golden Eagle Top Scholar-Athletes
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The Northern Arizona University Athletics Department held its 36th annual Golden Eagle Awards Tuesday at the High Country Conference Center to recognize its student-athletes for their stellar work in the classroom. Golden Eagle Distributors, Inc., honored 199 Lumberjack student-athletes for their scholastic and athletic accomplishments. The award recognizes student-athletes who maintain at least a 3.0 grade point average.

Men's Cross Country Garners Academic Award
NEW ORLEANS – The NCAA Division I Cross Country Champion Providence women and the Northern Arizona men have been named the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division I Scholar Team of the year for the 2013 cross country season among 217 women’s programs and 160 men’s programs that earned All-Academic Team honors.

OGDEN, Utah – The Northern Arizona football, volleyball, soccer and men's and women's cross country teams placed a total of 35 student-athletes on the fall 2013 Big Sky All-Academic Teams as recognized by the conference office.

NAU Athletics Hosts 2nd Annual National Girls & Women in Sports Day
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The Northern Arizona athletics department will once again celebrate National Girls and Women in Sports Day for the second consecutive year with a celebration that will stretch over two weekends in February. The celebration will begin on Saturday, Feb. 8, with a Youth Sports Symposium in conjunction with the NAU men’s basketball game against Southern Utah that night and will continue the following weekend with a meet and greet and halftime recognition at the NAU women’s basketball game against Eastern Washington. The clinic on Feb. 8 is open to all youth, both boys and girls, in 1st-8th grade and requires pre-registration.

EDINBURGH, Scotland - Former Northern Arizona University cross country runner Rochelle Kanuho was selected to represent the United States at the 25th Bupa Great Edinburgh Cross Country race in Edinburgh, Scotland on Saturday, January 11th.

Cross Country Season Recap - The Best Has Yet to Come
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. - Northern Arizona University's cross country program had a very successful fall season. The season was capped by the NAU women showing a dramatic improvement from the 2012 season as well as having a runner compete at the national meet and the NAU men finishing the season as national runner-up.

Men's Cross Country Finishes as National Runner-Up
TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - Northern Arizona University's men's cross country team competed at the NCAA Cross Country National Championships at the historic Levern Gibson Cross Country Course. The Lumberjack men finished second led by a trio of All-Americans. Rolonda Jumbo of the women's cross country also competed as an individual finishing 195th at her first national meet.

National Championship Hopes for No. 1 NAU Cross Country
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. - Northern Arizona University’s men’s cross country team as well as Rolonda Jumbo of the women’s cross country team will travel to Terre Haute, Ind., to compete at the NCAA Cross Country Championships on Saturday Nov. 23rd. The men’s 10K will begin at noon followed by the women’s 8K beginning at 1:15 p.m. ET.

NEW ORLEANS, La. – The USTFCCCA released its weekly national rankings today. NAU men’s cross country is on top of the poll for the first time since the beginning of USTFCCCA records in 1995 after taking down former No. 1 Colorado and winning the Mountain Region, perhaps the nation’s deepest region.

Jumbo to Represent Women's Cross Country at Nationals
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Rolonda Jumbo of the Northern Arizona University women’s cross country team has qualified to compete at the NCAA National Championships. Although the women’s team as a whole did not qualify, Jumbo’s All-Region performance at the Mountain Regional Championship meet allowed for her to be selected to compete individually.

Heins Wins Seventh Consecutive Big Sky COY Award
OGDEN, Utah - Northern Arizona University’s cross country program has been awarded yet another Big Sky accolade. Director of Track & Field and Cross Country Eric Heins has been selected as the Big Sky Conference Men’s Cross Country Coach of the Year. The 2013 recipients were chosen in a vote by the league’s coaches earlier this week.

Making up the class is cross country/track & field U.S. Olympian Lopez Lomong, inaugural women’s soccer player Raegan Eyers and three-time women’s basketball All-Big Sky honoree Jess LeBlanc.

NAU cross country began its season in impressing fashion as the men cruised to a first place finish and the women finishing second. The Lumberjacks were led by junior Matt McElroy who finished first with a time of 24:45.3 and sophomore Melanie Townsend who finished third with a time of 17:12.4.

NAU Athletics Host Clinic at Hopi Reservation
POLACCA, Ariz. – The Northern Arizona Lumberjacks Athletics Department may be located in Flagstaff, but every time NAU takes the field or steps out into the community, it strives to represent the greater northern Arizona area. To do that, the Lumberjacks need to reach out and make connections. On Thursday, Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics Dr. Lisa Campos led several members of the NAU coaching family to the Hopi Reservation and conducted a clinic for nearly 300 elementary school children from First Mesa Elementary School and Hopi Day School.

NEW ORLEANS, La. - The US Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association announced the Division 1 Preseason National Coaches Poll today. The Northern Arizona University’s men’s cross country team was voted to finish No. 2 behind defending champion Oklahoma State.

The first coaches luncheon will be held on Wednesday, August 21. All luncheons will be from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. at Collins Irish Pub located at 2 N. Leroux St. in downtown Flagstaff. A Sneak Peek at the Cross Country Teams
This year’s cross country teams has its work cut out for them to improve on last year’s success. With the men’s team coming off a sixth consecutive Big Sky Conference cross country championship, finishing the season ranked fourth in the country and the women’s team jumping from being ranked 7th in the Big Sky Conference to finishing last season ranked 3rd, the bar has been set pretty high for NAU cross country.

Men's Cross Country Picked to Repeat as Big Sky Champs
The Big Sky Conference released the results for the Cross Country preseason poll today. The NAU men’s team was picked unanimously by the league’s coaches to repeat as Big Sky Conference champions this upcoming season garnering all eleven first place votes. The NAU women were picked to finish second in the Big Sky Conference this upcoming season behind reigning Big Sky Conference champion Weber State University.
