Pohl Named Big Sky Conference Womens Cross Country Athlete of the Week
OGDEN, Utah – After helping
the Northern Arizona cross country teams bring him both titles from
the Aztec Invitational this past weekend, senior Veronica Pohl was
named women’s Big Sky Cross Country Athlete of the Week. This
is Pohl’s second-consecutive honor in as many weeks.
The German native took the women’s individual title at the
Aztec Invitational when she crossed the line first with a time of
18:11, 22 seconds better than the second-place finisher. The
women's team went on to win the race totaling 26 points and placing
four runners in the top 10.
Taking home the men’s Big Sky Conference Cross Country
Athlete of the Week award was Eastern Washington’s Alex
Smyth. He finished fourth out of 72 competitors, covering the
eight-kilometer course in 24:11.41, at the Sundodger Invitational
in Seattle Wash. The sophomore from Coupeville, Wash. helped the
Eagles to a third place finish.
Pohl and the rest of the Lumberjacks are training hard for their
upcoming meets with the ASU Inviational on Oct. 2, and the Cowboy
Jamboree hosted by Oklahoma State on Oct. 3.
