Heins Named Interim Director of Track and Field and Cross Country
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Eric Heins
has been named the interim director of track and field and cross
country for the Northern Arizona University programs, Athletics
Director Jim Fallis announced. NAU will conduct a national search
to permanently fill the position.
“We are extremely excited about the staff we have in place
for our programs with Eric and Coach Saatara,” said Athletics
Director Jim Fallis. “Eric has agreed to accept this position
and he will do a great job managing the programs during this
transition period.”
Former Director Track and Field and Cross Country J.W. Hardy
resigned last week to accept a similar position at Boise State.
Heins will continue his duties as the head coach for the cross
country programs. The Lumberjacks open the season Sept. 5. The
men’s cross country team ended the season by finishing sixth
at the NCAA Championships in 2008, while the women finished 23rd in
the country. Both teams captured Big Sky Conference championships
in 2008, as returnees David McNeill and Veronica Pohl were the
individual champions.
