Lumberjacks Drop in Latest USTFCCCA Polls
NEW ORLEANS, La. – After
finishing third overall in the “Blue” race this past
weekend at the Pre-Nationals Invitational, the Northern Arizona
men’s cross country team slipped three spots down to No. 5 in
the latest U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches
Association Poll.
Moving ahead of the Lumberjacks in the poll is Oregon and Oklahoma
State. The Ducks vaulted five spots to land at No. 2 in the
rankings after they took the men’s title in the
“Blue” race at Pre-Nationals.
The Lumberjacks ran another solid race in Terra Haute this past
weekend with junior Jordan Chipangama and sophomore Diego Estrada
finishing third and fourth respectively. That marked the third time
in three races that the duo had combined for a top-five finish.
After the women’s team finished 14th in the
“White” race this past weekend, the squad has dropped
out of the national rankings, but are still fifth in the Mountain
region. Veronica Pohl led the Lumberjacks with her 16th-place
finish overall.
With an off weekend coming up, the Lumberjacks are preparing to
defend both of their Big Sky titles in Greeley, Colo., on Oct. 31
at the Big Sky Championships.
