NAU Athletics Wins Back-to-Back Big Sky Presidents’ Cup
OGDEN, Utah – For the second straight year, Northern Arizona Athletics has captured the Big Sky Presidents’ Cup presented by Red Lion Hotels. NAU finished first in overall in athletic points for the second consecutive year, in addition to claiming the Big Sky Men’s and Women’s All-Sports Trophies in May.

Four Lumberjacks Named NSCA All-American Athlete Award Recipients
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) and Muscle Milk announced that four Northern Arizona student-athletes were named 2014 All-American Athlete Award recipients. Football seniors Drew Emanuel and Kyle Walker, soccer senior Elinor Priest, and volleyball junior Sydney Kemper were all recognized by the organization.

NAU Captures Men’s and Women’s Big Sky All-Sports Trophy
OGDEN, Utah – Northern Arizona has captured both the men’s and women’s Big Sky All-Sports Trophies, the conference office announced Monday. The Lumberjacks went into the outdoor track championship with the lead, and a sweep by the men’s and women’s teams this past weekend secured NAU the win on both sides. The sweep is the first true sweep by any school since 2000-01.

Women’s Tennis and Swimming & Diving Rank in Top 10 Percent
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Northern Arizona women’s tennis and swimming & diving were both honored by the NCAA for earning Public Recognition Awards, based on their most recent multi-year Academic Progress Rate. Forty-Three Student-Athletes to Receive Degrees This Weekend
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Forty-three Northern Arizona student-athletes will receive their degrees from the university this weekend as part of the Spring 2014 commencement ceremonies. When adding in the 15 student-athletes who participated in the Fall 2013 commencement ceremonies, the NAU Athletics Department produced a total of 58 graduates for the 2013-14 academic year.

Former Cal Poly Libero Joining Lumberjacks for 2014
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The Northern Arizona volleyball team landed an experienced Division-I transfer to bolster their defensive back row in Stacia Williams, a three-year member of Cal Poly’s volleyball team. Williams will be a redshirt junior in the fall after receiving a medical redshirt in 2013.

NAU Athletics Hosts 2nd Annual National Girls & Women in Sports Day
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The Northern Arizona athletics department will once again celebrate National Girls and Women in Sports Day for the second consecutive year with a celebration that will stretch over two weekends in February. The celebration will begin on Saturday, Feb. 8, with a Youth Sports Symposium in conjunction with the NAU men’s basketball game against Southern Utah that night and will continue the following weekend with a meet and greet and halftime recognition at the NAU women’s basketball game against Eastern Washington. The clinic on Feb. 8 is open to all youth, both boys and girls, in 1st-8th grade and requires pre-registration.

Vander Ploeg, Kemper Earn All-Big Sky Honors

In search of just their second Big Sky championship, the No. 4 seeded Lumberjacks begin their chase on Friday at 1:05 p.m. with a quarterfinal matchup against No. 5 Montana. FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – In front of a crowd of 602, the second-highest home attendance this season, the Northern Arizona volleyball team sent their two seniors – Lexie Schroeder and Erin Truett – out with a win in their final home match. The Lumberjacks clicked on all cylinders and wrapped up their home schedule in style defeating Montana State, 24-26, 25-19, 25-21, 25-17. FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The 2013 Northern Arizona volleyball team has navigated their way and overcome a number of obstacles throughout the season. The Lumberjacks have endured several injuries to a roster just 11 players deep. POCATELLO, Idaho – Down 2-0 to Idaho State on the road, the Northern Arizona volleyball team had its backs against the wall. The Bengals had not dropped a set at home this season at that point. All-Around Effort Leads Volleyball Past Montana
MISSOULA, Mont. – Just one night after squandering a 2-1 lead to Montana State in an eventual five-set loss, the Northern Arizona was not about to let it happen again. The Lumberjacks put away Montana in the fourth set and walked away with a 23-25, 26-24, 25-17, 25-17 victory Saturday night. The victory allowed NAU a split of the weekend and improved its record in Big Sky play to 6-2 and 12-5 overall.

The Lumberjacks hit well for the match at .271, but the Hornets were better at .313 and NAU was also hampered by a season-high 15 service errors in falling to 8-4 overall and 2-1 in the Big Sky.

Volleyball Prevails in Five-Set Thriller in Big Sky Opener
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The Northern Arizona volleyball team was glad to return home following a disappointing performance last week and it prevailed in a five-set thriller Thursday night at the Rolle Activity Center over Idaho State. The Lumberjacks pulled out a 26-24, 18-25, 26-24, 21-25, 20-18 decision in the Big Sky opener for both teams as they improved to 7-3, picking up a win in their first match to go the distance this season.

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The Northern Arizona volleyball team's comeback bid for extend the match came up just short as it was unable to overcome a season-worst .126 hitting percentage in a 3-0 loss to Towson to begin play at the Lobo Invitational Saturday morning. The Tigers handed the Lumberjacks their first three-set loss of the season, 25-21, 25-21, 28-26, as both teams moved to 1-1 at the New Mexico hosted tournament. NAU is 6-2 heading into its tourney finale tonight versus New Mexico at 6:30 PST.

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The Northern Arizona volleyball team was swept in the finale of the Lobo Invitational by host New Mexico on Saturday night, 25-12, 25-20, 25-14, as the Lumberjacks fell to 6-3 on the season heading into next week’s Big Sky opener versus Idaho State. Sophomore Trianna Henry represented the Lumberjacks on the Lobo Invitational all-tournament team after registering a match-high 15 digs and finishing the tournament with an average of 4.44 digs per set.

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The Northern Arizona volleyball team responded from its first loss of the season with a three-set sweep of Abilene Christian in the opening match of the Lobo Invitational to improve to 6-1 this season. The Lumberjacks picked up their sixth sweep of the season, 25-19, 26-24, 25-11, and finished the match with authority with a .636 hitting percentage in the third set, the program's third-best hitting percentage in sets 1-4 since 2001.

Volleyball Sweeps Campbell Behind Efficient Offensive Attack
WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The Northern Arizona volleyball utilized a highly efficient offensive attack to sweep Campbell in the opening match of the Tribe Invitational, 25-19, 25-12, 25-22, Friday afternoon. 2013 Volleyball Outlook
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The Northern Arizona volleyball team had a season to remember in 2012 for a number of reasons. It ended the year at 24-7 with the 24 victories marking the second-highest single season total in program history, only trailing the 26 wins by the 1991 squad. The .774 winning percentage bested the 1991 team and is the best winning percentage in school history. The Lumberjacks placed third in the Big Sky during the regular season with a 15-5 conference record and proceeded to earn the program's first postseason win since 1999 when they swept Montana State in the conference quarterfinals.

OGDEN, Utah – One year after one of the finest seasons in program history, the Northern Arizona volleyball team received two first-place votes in the Big Sky preseason poll released today by the conference. The Lumberjacks totaled 59 points and was voted fifth in the poll conducted by the league's head coaches. Coaches were not allowed to vote for their own teams.

GREELEY, Colo. – Senior Kelli Dallmann and sophomore Kalee Kirby recorded double-doubles and NAU responded from a first set loss to claim the three ensuing sets to score a 3-1 (17-25, 25-20, 25-21, 25-17) win over two-time defending Big Sky champion Northern Colorado on Thursday night in Greeley, Colo. NAU moved into sole possession of third place in the conference at 7-2 in the Big Sky and 15-3 overall as the Bears moved to 6-3 in the Big Sky and 13-5 on the season.

Volleyball Faces Tough Road Tests at Northern Colorado, North Dakota
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Winners of six of their last seven matches, the NAU Volleyball team (14-3, 6-2 BSC) closes out the first half of Big Sky play this week at Northern Colorado (13-4, 6-2 BSC) at 6 p.m. Thursday and North Dakota (9-10, 4-4 BSC) at 5 p.m. Saturday. Volleyball Scores Historic 3-0 Sweep of Montana
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – NAU broke the program record for fewest points allowed in a match as Montana totaled just 39 points in a 3-0 (25-8, 25-11, 25-20) Lumberjack sweep on Saturday night in Rolle Activity Center. The Lumberjacks also tied for the second best hitting percentage in a match in program history at .471 to improve to 6-2 in the Big Sky and 14-3 overall while Montana dropped to 3-14 overall and 1-7 in conference play.

Volleyball Home to Host Montana State Thursday on Fox Sports Arizona
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. - Having played 14 of its first 15 matches of the 2012 season away from Flagstaff, the NAU volleyball team (12-3, 4-2 BSC) plays the first of nine home dates in its final 14 matches of the regular season at 7 p.m. Thursday vs. Montana State (10-4, 4-2 BSC). CHENEY, Wash. – After taking a 2-0 lead NAU had to fend off a strong rally from Eastern Washington for a hard fought 3-1 (25-22, 25-18, 28-30, 28-26) win over the Eagles on Friday night in Cheney, Wash. Senior Kelli Dallmann led the Lumberjacks with 16 kills and 13 digs as NAU won its second of three road matches over the last five days and improved to 12-3 overall and 4-2 in the Big Sky while the Eagles remained winless in 2012 at 0-17 overall and 0-6 in conference play.

Gott Breaks Digs Record, Volleyball Defeated by Portland State
PORTLAND, Ore. - Senior libero Anna Gott became the all-time career digs leader in NAU volleyball history midway through the third set but Portland State narrowly topped the Lumberjacks in the first set and claimed the second and third sets for a 3-0 (25-23, 25-18, 25-16) win on Thursday in Portland. NAU was swept for the first time this season and moved to 3-2 in conference play and 11-3 overall as Portland State stayed perfect n the Big Sky at 5-0 and 9-7 overall.

Voice of Lumberjack Volleyball to be Enshrined in Hall of Fame
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. - The familiar voice at NAU volleyball matches since 1993, longtime NAU employee Dug Tryon is the 2012 recipient of the Athletics Contributor Award and has earned induction into the NAU Athletics Hall of Fame. A member of the Northern Arizona University staff from 1983 to 2012, Tryon has served as the public address announcer at more than 220 NAU volleyball matches over nearly 20 years.

POCATELLO, Idaho – After losing a tight first set, 26-24, NAU was unable to overcome Idaho State in the second and third sets as the Bengals completed a 3-0 sweep of the Lumberjacks on Saturday night in Pocatello (26-24, 25-17, 25-22). Volleyball Earns AVCA Team Academic Award
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – With a 3.32 cumulative grade point average during the 2010-11 academic year, the NAU volleyball team has earned the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) team academic award for the third consecutive year. To qualify for the award, the team must post a 3.30 or higher cumulative GPA for the entire academic year. The squad was one of three NAU programs to post a cumulative GPA above 3.30 during the 2010-11 academic year.

Former Big Sky Championship Volleyball Team Enters Hall of Fame on 10th Anniversary
November 20, 1999. Northern Arizona volleyball captures its first and only Big Sky Championship sending the Lumberjacks to the Womens Division I NCAA Championships in College Station, Texas. A decade later, the 1999 NAU volleyball team remains the most successful in program history and will become the 13th team to be inducted into the NAU Athletics Hall of Fame.

Portland State Volleyball Picked to Win the Big Sky Conference in 2009
OGDEN, Utah - Portland State has been chosen to win the 2009 Big Sky Conference title according to a vote by the leagues head coaches. The poll was released on Tuesday by the league and coaches were not allowed to vote for their own teams. NAU was picked to finish seventh of the nine teams in the conference.

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. Former football standout Alvin Rex and the most successful volleyball team in school history will be inducted into the Northern Arizona University Athletics Hall of Fame, Athletics Director Jim Fallis announced. Dr. L. Stephen Rice will receive the Athletics Contributor Award.
