FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Incoming freshman Kimber Kemp answered the Summer Spotlight questions with the NAU Athletics Communications Department as we continued to take a look at the Northern Arizona volleyball newcomers.

Kemp continues the Hamilton High School lineage to NAU following two years as a starter in high school. As a senior, she was the libero for a team who finished 35-8 and finished as an Arizona 6A state semifinalist. The Chandler product totaled 396 digs and 27 service aces this past fall and overall was a three-year letterwinner.

Kemp's answers to the Summer Spotlight Q&A is below and the series will continue next week.

Q: What are you looking forward to the most about being a part of the NAU Volleyball team?

A: "I'm looking forward to being part of their family environment. I'm also looking forward to getting to compete with a bunch of girls who really want to be the best at what they do."

Q: If you had to describe yourself as a volleyball player in one word, what would it be and why?

A: "I'd say hard-working because I've been through quite bit with an injury I had during my sophomore year. I've didn't always have the position that I wanted, so I had to work hard to get what was I working for. Things aren't always easy, but I've been able to achieve my goals."

Q: Both of your parents and your brothers attended NAU. Have you always wanted to come to NAU as well?

A: "I've wanted to go to NAU since I was probably in the first grade. It's where my parents went, and it's actually where my grandparents went too. It just felt normal, and once I started talking to the volleyball team, it was a perfect fit."

Q: You love to fish, so what is one of your favorite fishing memories?

A: "Up in Payson – we have a cabin out there – my dad taught me how to fish there. I was so excited when I caught my first fish."

Q: Your high school teammate Heaven Harris is also coming to play at NAU. What is that like to have someone you've played with alongside you?

A: "It's awesome because not only have I played with her in high school, I also played against her in club volleyball. We've always been around each other and we're super comfortable together. We mesh well. I've been playing back row for her, so we have a connection on the court."

Q: What is one fun fact about yourself?

A: "I have a compound bow, and I'm good at shooting it. I've never actually hunted with it, but I can target shoot. I also skeet shoot. It's a weird hobby that no one knows about."
