NAU Athletics Wins Back-to-Back Big Sky Presidents’ Cup
OGDEN, Utah – For the second straight year, Northern Arizona Athletics has captured the Big Sky Presidents’ Cup presented by Red Lion Hotels. NAU finished first in overall in athletic points for the second consecutive year, in addition to claiming the Big Sky Men’s and Women’s All-Sports Trophies in May.

Four Lumberjacks Named NSCA All-American Athlete Award Recipients
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) and Muscle Milk announced that four Northern Arizona student-athletes were named 2014 All-American Athlete Award recipients. Football seniors Drew Emanuel and Kyle Walker, soccer senior Elinor Priest, and volleyball junior Sydney Kemper were all recognized by the organization.

NAU Captures Men’s and Women’s Big Sky All-Sports Trophy
OGDEN, Utah – Northern Arizona has captured both the men’s and women’s Big Sky All-Sports Trophies, the conference office announced Monday. The Lumberjacks went into the outdoor track championship with the lead, and a sweep by the men’s and women’s teams this past weekend secured NAU the win on both sides. The sweep is the first true sweep by any school since 2000-01.

Women’s Tennis and Swimming & Diving Rank in Top 10 Percent
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Northern Arizona women’s tennis and swimming & diving were both honored by the NCAA for earning Public Recognition Awards, based on their most recent multi-year Academic Progress Rate. These awards are given each year to teams with APRs in the top 10 percent in each sport. This is the second straight year women’s tennis has received the honor.

Forty-Three Student-Athletes to Receive Degrees This Weekend
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Forty-three Northern Arizona student-athletes will receive their degrees from the university this weekend as part of the Spring 2014 commencement ceremonies. When adding in the 15 student-athletes who participated in the Fall 2013 commencement ceremonies, the NAU Athletics Department produced a total of 58 graduates for the 2013-14 academic year.

Dorsey is slated to begin her NAU career as a middle blocker, but also comes in with experience on the outside.

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The Northern Arizona University Student-Athlete Advisory Committee held the inaugural Louies awards show Wednesday night at the Prochnow Auditorium to celebrate the year that was in NAU Athletics. It was a night of celebration, honoring and recognizing all of the Lumberjack student-athletes for their success in the classroom, in competition and in the community.

Former Cal Poly Libero Joining Lumberjacks for 2014
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The Northern Arizona volleyball team landed an experienced Division-I transfer to bolster their defensive back row in Stacia Williams, a three-year member of Cal Poly’s volleyball team. Williams will be a redshirt junior in the fall after receiving a medical redshirt in 2013.

Jacobsen, Smith Named Golden Eagle Top Scholar-Athletes
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The Northern Arizona University Athletics Department held its 36th annual Golden Eagle Awards Tuesday at the High Country Conference Center to recognize its student-athletes for their stellar work in the classroom. Golden Eagle Distributors, Inc., honored 199 Lumberjack student-athletes for their scholastic and athletic accomplishments. The award recognizes student-athletes who maintain at least a 3.0 grade point average.

Lumberjack Student-Athletes Volunteer with Winter Games
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Last Friday and Saturday, the Northern Arizona football, volleyball and soccer teams volunteered with the Special Olympics Winter Games here in Flagstaff at a variety of locations. In all, 25 student-athletes volunteered a total of 94.5 hours over the two days.

NAU Athletics Hosts 2nd Annual National Girls & Women in Sports Day
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The Northern Arizona athletics department will once again celebrate National Girls and Women in Sports Day for the second consecutive year with a celebration that will stretch over two weekends in February. The celebration will begin on Saturday, Feb. 8, with a Youth Sports Symposium in conjunction with the NAU men’s basketball game against Southern Utah that night and will continue the following weekend with a meet and greet and halftime recognition at the NAU women’s basketball game against Eastern Washington. The clinic on Feb. 8 is open to all youth, both boys and girls, in 1st-8th grade and requires pre-registration.

Vander Ploeg, Kemper Earn All-Big Sky Honors
OGDEN, Utah – On the eve of the Big Sky Championships, the Northern Arizona volleyball team placed two players on the All-Big Sky teams on Thursday as voted on by the conference's head coaches. Sophomore Janae Vander Ploeg was selected to the All-Big Sky first team while junior Sydney Kemper was named an All-Big Sky second team selection, giving the Lumberjacks multiple all-conference players for the third consecutive year.

Volleyball Heads to Portland With Big Sky Title Aspirations
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. - Two losses to close out the regular season may not have been the ending the Northern Arizona volleyball team (19-10, 13-7 Big Sky) would have preferred, but the Lumberjacks turn their attentions to the Big Sky Championships hungry for a title. In search of just their second Big Sky championship, the No. 4 seeded Lumberjacks begin their chase on Friday at 1:05 p.m. with a quarterfinal matchup against No. 5 Montana. A win would set up a semifinal date with host and top-seeded Portland State Friday night at 8 p.m. before a potential championship match on Saturday at 8 p.m.

Volleyball Drops Five-Setter at Northern Colorado
GREELEY, Colo. – The Northern Arizona volleyball team will enter next week's Big Sky Championships in Portland, Ore. as the No. 4 seed after suffering a tough five-set loss at Northern Colorado, 25-17, 23-25, 27-25, 23-25, 15-13, in their regular season finale. NAU (19-10, 13-7 Big Sky) will face No. 5 Montana, a team it defeated twice in the regular season, in the opening round of the conference tournament next Friday.

Volleyball Hits the Road for Final Week of Regular Season
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. - The Northern Arizona volleyball team concludes the regular season this week on the road at North Dakota on Thursday and Northern Colorado on Saturday with a berth in the Big Sky Championships in hand. The Lumberjacks clinched one of the six spots with a victory over Montana last Thursday, which they followed with a victory over Montana State on Senior Night. Volleyball Blitzes Montana State for Senior Night Triumph
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – In front of a crowd of 602, the second-highest home attendance this season, the Northern Arizona volleyball team sent their two seniors – Lexie Schroeder and Erin Truett – out with a win in their final home match. The Lumberjacks clicked on all cylinders and wrapped up their home schedule in style defeating Montana State, 24-26, 25-19, 25-21, 25-17. NAU (19-8, 13-5 Big Sky) finished with an 11-2 record at the Rolle Activity Center, equaling the program-best for home victories in a season.

Volleyball to Host Montana State Saturday for Senior Night
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The 2013 Northern Arizona volleyball team has navigated their way and overcome a number of obstacles throughout the season. The Lumberjacks have endured several injuries to a roster just 11 players deep. The squad returned just three starters from last year's Big Sky semifinal team and was young and relatively inexperienced. There was also a brand new coaching staff that needed to incorporate themselves into the program.

PORTLAND, Ore. – Playing shorthanded, the Northern Arizona volleyball team was able to pull out a first set victory Saturday night, but Portland State proved to be victorious in the end winning in four sets, 24-26, 25-12, 25-19, 25-17. The Vikings dealt the Lumberjacks their fifth conference loss as NAU will carry an 11-5 Big Sky mark into its final two home matches of the season next week.

Sophomore Janae Vander Ploeg and freshman Addy Lofstedt combined for 28 of the Lumberjacks' 40 kills as NAU improved to 16-6 overall and 10-3 in the conference by sweeping Sacramento State. Volleyball Rallies for Five-Set Comeback Win over Idaho State
POCATELLO, Idaho – Down 2-0 to Idaho State on the road, the Northern Arizona volleyball team had its backs against the wall. The Bengals had not dropped a set at home this season at that point. Yet, the Lumberjacks stormed ahead and pulled off the five-set comeback by winning the final three sets in dramatic fashion to move into sole possession of second place in the Big Sky standings with a 14-25, 18-25, 25-20, 26-24, 16-14 victory Saturday night.

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. –The Northern Arizona volleyball team fought back from a 2-0 deficit to force a decisive fifth set, but Northern Colorado halted the Lumberjacks’ comeback bid there as the Bears escaped the Rolle Activity Center with a 25-21, 25-15, 24-26, 20-25, 15-12 victory Thursday night. The Lumberjacks fell to 6-3 in the Big Sky with the five-set defeat and 12-6 overall heading into their match against Big Sky leading North Dakota on Saturday.

The Lumberjacks saw their three-match win streak come to an end at Montana State last Friday in five sets, but rebounded with one of their best matches of the season the following night defeating Montana in four sets.

All-Around Effort Leads Volleyball Past Montana
MISSOULA, Mont. – Just one night after squandering a 2-1 lead to Montana State in an eventual five-set loss, the Northern Arizona was not about to let it happen again. The Lumberjacks put away Montana in the fourth set and walked away with a 23-25, 26-24, 25-17, 25-17 victory Saturday night. The victory allowed NAU a split of the weekend and improved its record in Big Sky play to 6-2 and 12-5 overall.

BOZEMAN, Mont. – The Northern Arizona volleyball team battled back from a first-set loss to take a 2-1 lead in the match, but Montana State denied the Lumberjacks of their fourth consecutive victory, rallying for a five-set win Saturday night. The Bobcats earned a 25-23, 23-25, 19-25, 25-18, 15-13 win as the Lumberjacks fell to 11-5 overall and 5-2 in the conference.

The Lumberjacks picked up their second consecutive victory over Portland State after dropping the previous 16 matches between the two teams to improve to 10-4 overall and more importantly 4-1 in the conference.

The 43 points allowed was the lowest total this season by an NAU opponent as the Lumberjacks never trailed in a successful bounce back after their loss at Sacramento State last Friday.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Despite a first set victory, the Northern Arizona volleyball team suffered its first conference loss of the season to Sacramento State Friday night, 23-25, 25-23, 25-19, 25-19. The Lumberjacks hit well for the match at .271, but the Hornets were better at .313 and NAU was also hampered by a season-high 15 service errors in falling to 8-4 overall and 2-1 in the Big Sky.

Volleyball Prevails in Five-Set Thriller in Big Sky Opener
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The Northern Arizona volleyball team was glad to return home following a disappointing performance last week and it prevailed in a five-set thriller Thursday night at the Rolle Activity Center over Idaho State. The Lumberjacks pulled out a 26-24, 18-25, 26-24, 21-25, 20-18 decision in the Big Sky opener for both teams as they improved to 7-3, picking up a win in their first match to go the distance this season.

NAU Volleyball Opens Big Sky Play At Home This Week
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. - The Northern Arizona volleyball team opens Big Sky play this week with Idaho State and Weber State coming to the Rolle Activity Center this Thursday and Saturday. The Lumberjacks look to improve on their performance from a week ago at the Lobo Invitational as they finished the UNM tournament with a pair of three-set losses to Towson and New Mexico following a sweep of Abilene Christian in their opening match. NAU lost two consecutive matches for the first time since last Sept. 8 and 14 at California and at Idaho State.

Volleyball Falls to Towson, 3-0, to Begin Day 2 of Lobo Invite
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The Northern Arizona volleyball team's comeback bid for extend the match came up just short as it was unable to overcome a season-worst .126 hitting percentage in a 3-0 loss to Towson to begin play at the Lobo Invitational Saturday morning. The Tigers handed the Lumberjacks their first three-set loss of the season, 25-21, 25-21, 28-26, as both teams moved to 1-1 at the New Mexico hosted tournament. NAU is 6-2 heading into its tourney finale tonight versus New Mexico at 6:30 PST.

New Mexico Hands Volleyball 3-0 Sweep
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The Northern Arizona volleyball team was swept in the finale of the Lobo Invitational by host New Mexico on Saturday night, 25-12, 25-20, 25-14, as the Lumberjacks fell to 6-3 on the season heading into next week’s Big Sky opener versus Idaho State. Sophomore Trianna Henry represented the Lumberjacks on the Lobo Invitational all-tournament team after registering a match-high 15 digs and finishing the tournament with an average of 4.44 digs per set.

Volleyball Finishes Sweep of ACU with Blistering Third Set
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The Northern Arizona volleyball team responded from its first loss of the season with a three-set sweep of Abilene Christian in the opening match of the Lobo Invitational to improve to 6-1 this season. The Lumberjacks picked up their sixth sweep of the season, 25-19, 26-24, 25-11, and finished the match with authority with a .636 hitting percentage in the third set, the program's third-best hitting percentage in sets 1-4 since 2001.

Volleyball to Play at UNM Tourney in Final Tune-Up for Big Sky
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. - Coming off an impressive 2-1 weekend at home and runner-up finish in its Fiesta Bowl Tournament, the Northern Arizona volleyball team heads out to Albuquerque, N.M. for this weekend’s Lobo Invitational. There the Lumberjacks will play Abilene Christian on Friday before their Saturday doubleheader against Towson and host New Mexico. The Lobos’ home tournament will be NAU’s final non-conference preparation before its Big Sky opener next Thursday at home versus Idaho State.

Volleyball Sweeps Idaho, to Play CSUN for Fiesta Bowl Title Tonight
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The Northern Arizona volleyball team swept its way to a fifth consecutive victory of to open the season in the Saturday morning opener of the Fiesta Bowl Tournament, 25-18, 27-25, 25-23 over Idaho. The Lumberjacks are now 5-0 and will look to clinch their 13th Fiesta Bowl title with a win tonight versus Cal State Northridge at 7 p.m. Cal State Northridge is also unbeaten in the tournament after defeating San Diego State in five sets on Saturday.

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The Northern Arizona volleyball team claimed the first set of Saturday's Fiesta Bowl championship match, but Cal State Northridge would ultimately leave the Rolle Activity Center with the title in hand as the Matadors handed the Lumberjacks their first loss of the 2013 season, 20-25, 25-20, 25-22, 25-10. The Matadors denied the Lumberjacks of their 13th Fiesta Bowl championship in this year's 20th installment as NAU enters next weekend's Lobo Invitational with a 5-1 mark after a 2-1 record at home this weekend.

Volleyball Sweeps William & Mary for Tribe Invite Title
WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The Northern Arizona volleyball team withstood five William & Mary set points in an eventual second set win and parlayed that momentum right into a third-set blitzing as the Lumberjacks swept their way to a 3-0 start to the season and the Tribe Invitational championship. NAU swept the host Tribe, 25-22, 30-28, 25-10, to clinch its sixth tournament title dating back to the start of the 2011 season.

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – One day after forcing Campbell into 17 attack errors, the Northern Arizona volleyball team did itself one better and capitalized on 30 San Jose State errors to its second consecutive sweep to start the 2013 season Saturday morning. The Lumberjacks swept the Spartans, 25-20, 25-19, 25-14, and put themselves in position to claim the Tribe Invitational title this afternoon when they play host William & Mary.

Volleyball Sweeps Campbell Behind Efficient Offensive Attack
WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The Northern Arizona volleyball utilized a highly efficient offensive attack to sweep Campbell in the opening match of the Tribe Invitational, 25-19, 25-12, 25-22, Friday afternoon. The Lumberjacks hit .390 for the match and did not hit lower than .323 in any of the three sets as they won their season opener for the third consecutive season and seventh overall in the last eight years.

Volleyball Opens Season at William & Mary Invitational
The 2013 Northern Arizona volleyball season begins this weekend at the Tribe Invitational hosted by William & Mary in Williamsburg, Va. The Lumberjacks are coming off a season in which they finished third in the Big Sky in 2012 with a 24-7 overall mark. Led by first-year head coach Ken Murphy, the Lumberjacks aim to be better than their fifth-place predicted finish in the Preseason Big Sky Coaches Poll.

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The Northern Arizona University Athletics Department has released the dates of the NAU Coaches Luncheon for the 2013 Fall Semester. The first coaches luncheon will be held on Wednesday, August 21. All luncheons will be from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. at Collins Irish Pub located at 2 N. Leroux St. in downtown Flagstaff. 2013 Volleyball Outlook
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The Northern Arizona volleyball team had a season to remember in 2012 for a number of reasons. It ended the year at 24-7 with the 24 victories marking the second-highest single season total in program history, only trailing the 26 wins by the 1991 squad. The .774 winning percentage bested the 1991 team and is the best winning percentage in school history. The Lumberjacks placed third in the Big Sky during the regular season with a 15-5 conference record and proceeded to earn the program's first postseason win since 1999 when they swept Montana State in the conference quarterfinals.

Lumberjack Volleyball Picked Fifth by Big Sky Coaches
OGDEN, Utah – One year after one of the finest seasons in program history, the Northern Arizona volleyball team received two first-place votes in the Big Sky preseason poll released today by the conference. The Lumberjacks totaled 59 points and was voted fifth in the poll conducted by the league's head coaches. Coaches were not allowed to vote for their own teams.

Ken Murphy Named Lumberjack Head Women’s Volleyball Coach
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. - Ken Murphy has been hired as the new head coach of the Northern Arizona women’s volleyball program, announced today by Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics Dr. Lisa Campos. Murphy brings 16 years of coaching experience at the NCAA Division I level with him to Flagstaff.
