TUSCON, Ariz. – The Northern Arizona women’s volleyball team opened its spring schedule with an undefeated tournament record against Arizona State, Grand Canyon, New Mexico State, and Yavapai College on Saturday.
The Lumberjacks defeated Grand Canyon, New Mexico State, and Yavapai sweeping the two-set match schedule. NAU split with Arizona State, 1-1, completing a 3-0-1 weekend.
“We absolutely won the serve pass contest with the exception of one game against Arizona State,” said head coach Craig Choate. “That is why we won. We scrapped and won points. They are turning into nice volleyball players and I like where they are going.”
The women have three more spring tournaments traveling to New Mexico this Saturday, Arizona State in two weeks, and host their final playing day on April 16.
“The majority of our team is moving up as upperclassmen and that is a big plus for us,” Choate said. “I think we are starting to figure some stuff out. We are trying to do some things that are more complicated and we are at a place where we can do them.”
