OGDEN, Utah – Senior middle blocker Katie Bailey, who earned MVP honors and led NAU to the tournament championship at the Falcon Invitational over the weekend, was today named Co-Big Sky Player of the Week, sharing the award with Idaho State setter Lori Mendenhall. The award was the first in Bailey's career, as she joined teammates Kelli Dallmann and Kobi Christensen in becoming the third Lumberjack in as many weeks this season to earn the conference weekly honor.
Bailey averaged 1.33 blocks and 2.08 kills per set while hitting .262 during the tournament, leading NAU to a 3-0 record and extending NAU's season record to 9-0. The Ontario, Calif. native recorded a team season high of nine blocks, including two solo blocks, in the Lumberjacks 3-0 win over Air Force to conclude the tournament. She reached double digits with 11 kills against Utah Valley and posted eight kills and five blocks vs. South Carolina Upstate.
Bailey is now third in the Big Sky in both blocks (1.09 per set) and hitting percentage (.278). NAU will play its first Big Sky match on Thursday, hosting Montana State at 7 p.m. in Rolle Activity Center.
