Volleyball Earns AVCA Team Academic Award
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – With a 3.32 cumulative grade point average during the 2010-11 academic year, the NAU volleyball team has earned the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) team academic award for the third consecutive year. To qualify for the award, the team must post a 3.30 or higher cumulative GPA for the entire academic year. The squad was one of three NAU programs to post a cumulative GPA above 3.30 during the 2010-11 academic year (women's soccer, women's cross country).
Eight Lumberjacks earned Big Sky All-Academic selections in 2010 while 10 players (out of 13 total team members) represented the volleyball team as Golden Eagle Scholar Athlete award recipients.
Additionally, outside hitter Lauren Campbell was named to the CoSIDA/ESPN Academic All-District Eight First Team in 2010. The junior has recorded a perfect 4.00 GPA during her first-two years at NAU and is majoring in mechanical engineering.
Seven of the eight Lumberjacks that received Big Sky All-Academic honors in 2010 return for the 2011 season, which begins at the Wolverine Invitational in Orem, Utah on August 26.
