FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Northern Arizona volleyball signed two student-athletes for its 2011 class. Sydney Kemper and Taylor Stephens will join the Lumberjacks next fall after standout careers as prep players.
Stephens, from Scottsdale Christian Academy, helped her team to a 9-11-1 record and was named the Central Arizona 2A Player of the Year as a junior. The 6-0 middle blocker and outside hitter also plays club ball for Spiral 18’s in Phoenix.
“We watched her in club as a middle blocker,” said head coach Craig Choate. “She came to camp last summer and played outside. She impressed the heck out of the coaching staff and we offered her at camp. Taylor has all six skills and can be a terrific player for us.”
Kemper, from La Cueva High School in Albuquerque, N.M., helped her team to a 19-4-0 record in her junior season and an 11-0 mark in league play. Another 6-0 middle blocker, Kemper plays club volleyball for New Mexico Juniors.
“Sydney came to our club camp with her team,” Choate said. “She did such a nice job we asked her to come back to camp. She played outside as well as middle and we thought she did really well too.
“Both Sydney and Taylor are bigger kids with good verticals. They can help us to be a higher playing volleyball team and we look forward to having them join us next fall.”
