Volleyball Back at Home with Portland State and Eastern Washington

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Northern Arizona volleyball returns home for its final three matches of the Big Sky Conference season.  The Lumberjacks play two of those matches this week hosting Portland State on Thursday, Nov. 11 at 7 p.m. and Eastern Washington on Saturday, Nov. 13 at 7 p.m.

NAU (9-14, 5-8 BSC) enters this weekend seventh in the Big Sky Conference and two wins outside of the league's top four.  The Lumberjacks face the conference's second best team this season, Portland State, who clinched a spot in the postseason tournament last week.

Portland State (16-8, 11-2 BSC) arrives in Flagstaff on a four-match win streak.  The Vikings defeated Eastern Washington, 3-2, in their only match last week. 

For the season, Portland State is 5-6 in road matches.  NAU holds a 15-14 record in this series but have dropped its last 12 contests against the Vikings.

Eastern Washington (7-16, 6-7 BSC) came into last week's meeting with Portland State with three consecutive wins.  After a 3-2 loss, the Eagles slipped to sixth place in the Big Sky Conference standings.  Eastern Washington plays the league's top team in Northern Colorado on Thursday before Saturday's match against NAU.

 The Eagles are 1-10 on the road this year and.  NAU is 21-33 all-time against Eastern Washington.

"We have two important matches this week against Portland State and Eastern Washington," said head coach Craig Choate.  "We lost to both these teams on the road, 3-0, and would like to show we can play with them.  We have three matches left this season against quality opponents but we want to end the regular season on a winning streak."

The Lumberjacks have picked up their play over the past several matches.  In their last five, the team has a .188 hitting percentage.  Sophomore Lexi Sullivan has averaged 4.0 kills per set in that span while teammates Niki Small and Jen Wilson are both hitting over .260.

Also for NAU, sophomore Kelli Dallmann has averaged 10.65 assists per set while sophomore Anna Gott has collected 4.65 digs per set.

DID YOU KNOW… The volleyball team had the best semester GPA at 3.49 in the spring of 2010, followed closely by women's cross country (3.47), women's golf (3.41), soccer (3.38) and women's basketball (3.36). Overall, 11 of the 15 teams had a 3.0 or higher semester GPA.
