Volleyball Defeats Montana State in Five Sets
BOZEMAN, Mont. – Sophomore Lexi Sullivan recorded 23 kills in Northern Arizona volleyball's 3-2 win over Montana State at Shroyer Gym on Friday night. The Lumberjacks defeated the Bobcats by sets of 21-25, 25-21, 25-18, 18-25, and 18-16.
NAU (9-13, 5-7 BSC) won its second road match of the conference season and picked up its second win over Montana State this year pulling out a close five-set match. The Lumberjacks were outhit and out-dug in the match but still managed to pull out its fifth victory of the season and stay alive in the Big Sky Tournament race.
The Lumberjacks lost the first set but battled back to take the next two holding a 2-1 edge through three sets. Montana State (10-15, 3-9 BSC) answered by winning the fourth and pushed NAU to a deciding fifth set.
Montana State took a 3-0 led in the fifth and held the lead before a 9-3 run put NAU up 12-9. The Bobcats fought back and took a 14-13 lead and were serving for match point but a service error tied the match at 14-14. With the match tied 16-16, Sullivan recorded her match-high 23rd kill and clinched the match the following point with a service ace.
Sullivan turned in her best performance of the season hitting .259 for the match and reset her season-high in kills. Sophomore Kelli Dallmann totaled 48 assists while sophomore Anna Gott posted 26 digs rounding out the Lumberjacks top performers on the night.
