MALIBU, Calif. – Northern Arizona volleyball opened the
Holiday Inn LA City Center Trojan Invitational with a 3-0 loss to
No. 21 Pepperdine at the Firestone Fieldhouse on Thursday night.
The match finished with scores of 25-15, 25-13, and 25-11.
NAU (1-3) stayed close to Pepperdine in the first set and were down just 10-8, but the Waves went on an 11-4 run to open the score 21-12.
Pepperdine (4-0) jumped out early in the second and third sets keeping the Lumberjacks at bay throughout the remainder of the match. The Waves will play No. 16 USC (3-1) on Friday at 7 p.m.
Lexi Sullivan led NAU with a .243 hitting percentage and 12 kills, tying the game-high. Anna Gott and Lauren Campbell added 13 and 10 digs, respectively. Kelli Dallmann led with 18 assists.
Rachel Grochmal led Pepperdine with 12 kills and eights digs while Kiah Fiers added 38 assists and Stevi Robinson totaled 18 digs.
Pepperdine hit a season-high .359 and posted 13 service aces,
while holding the Lumberjacks to .125 hitting percentage.
NAU will play Florida Gulf Coast at the Galen Center in Los Angeles on Friday at 4:30 p.m.
