FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The Northern Arizona University women's tennis team will host Grand Canyon University Friday, Feb. 10 at 5 p.m. in the Aquatic and Tennis Complex. This will be the first home match of the season for the Lumberjacks. NAU is coming off of a full week of practice after not having to compete last weekend. The Lumberjacks have played in two matches so far going 0-2 against UC Davis and Arizona.
"Grand Canyon is a tough match, which should really help us before our first upcoming conference match," said Director of Tennis Ki Kroll. "Everyone has been focused and working hard, which should result in a really competitive match."
The Lumberjacks are heading into this match with good momentum. In doubles the 'Jacks are coming out aggressive and looking to come out strong in every match, which they proved they could do against UC Davis. In singles the 'Jacks have some key players like Hanneke Lodewijks and No. 18 freshman Chiara Tomasetti who have competed in both matches so far on court one and two, respectively. NAU is excited to compete at home for the first time this season.
"We always enjoy playing in Flagstaff in front of our home crowd," said Kroll. "It's always an advantage for us to play here, and we hope to see everyone come out in support."
Match time is set for 5 p.m. in the Aquatic and Tennis Complex. Admission is free for all who attend.
The Lumberjacks finished 2016 as regular season champions with an 18-8 overall record and 10-1 in Big Sky Conference play.
