Five NAU Women's Tennis Players Selected to 2016 ITA All-Academic Team

SKILLMAN, N.J. – The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) recently announced the All-Academic Teams and Scholar Athletes for the 2016 season. Northern Arizona University women's tennis players Emelia Box, Jordan Denesik, Livia Hollosy, Hanneke Lodewijks and Julia Schepp were each selected to the All-Academic Team.

The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any member program that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above (on a 4.00 scale). All eligible student-athletes whose names appear on the NCAA, NAIA or Junior/Community College eligibility form and have competed in one or more varsity matches must average into the GPA for the current academic year including fall 2015 and spring 2016.

Denesik and Lodewijks saw the most court time in 2016, each picking up double-digit singles and doubles victories for the Lumberjacks. Denesik, landing on the All-Big Sky Second Team in her final season, led the way in the win column with 17 victories including a perfect 11-0 mark on court five in conference matches. Lodewijks, in her rookie campaign, was an All-Big Sky First Team selection after playing No. 1 singles and doubles all season long.

"At its core, college tennis is about higher education! And, our sport has always been a leader when it comes to high performing scholar-athletes," said Timothy Russell, Chief Executive Officer of the ITA. "This group represents the best of the best, as do their coaches who regularly serve as such great teachers and mentors of our sport's finest young people. Hearty and well-deserved congratulations coupled with loud cheers go out to all of these superstars of intercollegiate athletics."

Denesik recently graduated with a degree in Biomedical Science and a minor in Chemistry while Lodewijks is currently majoring in Exercise Science. Both are Golden Eagle Scholar Athlete award winners (cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above) and members of the spring 2016 Big Sky All-Academic Team (cumulative GPA of 3.2 or above and competed in at least half of the team's competition).
