Women’s Tennis Picks up 4-1 Victory Over Weber State

OGDEN, Utah – After a weather delay in Ogden, the Northern Arizona women's tennis team faced off against Weber State and the Lumberjacks picked up four wins in singles play as NAU was able to come away with the 4-1 victory over the Wildcats.

"It is not easy adjusting to multiple rain delays,"said head coach Kim Bruno. "But we have a tough group of women that all came together to achieve a solid win."

With the win, the Lumberjacks are now 6-13 overall but more importantly the women are now 5-2 in conference and currently sit in fourth place in the Big Sky.

Due to the weather delay, today's play started with singles play rather than starting out with doubles. At the No. 1 position, Johanna Vang was able to come away with a two-set win over Kristi Elmer. Vang won a tough first set by a score of 7-5 then Vang left no shot of a comeback in the second set as she took care of Elmore 6-1 for her ninth win in singles this season.

After Vang, the Lumberjacks came away with wins from No. 4 Hailey Rochin, No. 5 Sarah Maria Spruch and No. 6 Tatum Rochin.

Hailey Rochin got her first win singles since March 23 against Montana and today's win came against Michelle Warwick by a score of 6-1, 6-2. Spruch came away with a win in a tough three-set match against Lauren Schulte. Schulte was able to handle Spruch in the first set with 6-1 victory but Spruch stormed back in the last two sets to come away with the 6-2, 6-0 victory. Tatum Rochin played very well for the Lumberjacks at the No. 6 slot as she came away with the 6-3, 6-2 victory over Megan Rindlisbacher.

"Everyone stepped up today," said Tatum Rochin. "We did what we needed to do to win. I think we have really improved since the start of the season and this match really showed it."

Doubles play was not played due to the weather delay and NAU had already clinched the match.

The Lumberjacks will close out their road trip tomorrow against Idaho State and Utah State with play beginning at 9 a.m.
