FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. –After going 6-0 last weekend and ending the Northern Arizona women's tennis losing skid, the Lumberjacks Johanna Vang has been named this week's Big Sky Player of the Week.
Vang started out the week winning both her matches against Western Michigan with a 6-3, 6-2 win in singles over Kathleen Hawkins and a 7-5 win in doubles along with Hailey Rochin.
Vang carried that momentum when the Lumberjacks traveled to the Pacific Northwest to face Gonzaga and Big Sky opponent Eastern Washington. Gonzaga went into the match ranked No. 75 in the country and Vang came away with a 6-3, 7-5 win over Kylie Peek at the No. 1 spot of the lineup. Vang along with Sarah Maria Spruch, would dominate their doubles match against the Bulldogs with an 8-1 win.
To close out the week on Saturday, Vang would lead the Lumberjacks to a crucial win over Big Sky opponent Eastern Washington. Vang defeated Moira Hedberg at the No. 1 spot by a score of 6-4, 3-6, 6-3. Vang would also pull out a doubles win with Spruch against the Eagle's Dani Young and Katrina Domingo 8-2, which snapped Northern Arizona's seven-match losing skid.
Vang and the Lumberjacks will be back in action this weekend at home against North Dakota on Saturday at 9 a.m. at Continental Country Club.
