FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The Northern Arizona women's tennis team travel to Las Vegas, Nev. to participate in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Mountain Region Championships. Northern Arizona will be one of 19 schools competing in singles and doubles play from Oct. 9 through Oct. 13.
The Lumberjacks go into regionals having two weeks to prepare for some fierce competition that includes top schools UNLV, BYU, Colorado, Denver and more. Northern Arizona will face women that were ranked in the ITA top 150 preseason rankings. The Lumberjacks will also get a look at their fellow Big Sky Conference opponents as Montana, Montana State, Northern Colorado and Weber State will also be participating in Las Vegas.
Representing the Lumberjacks at the ITA Mountain Region Championships will be Sarah Spruch, Emelia Box, Hailey Rochin and Johanna Vang. Box and Vang both go into the event ranked as no. 17 seeds and look to go far in the tournament. Box is coming off her best invitational of the fall going 3-0 in singles play at the UNLV Fall Invite.
In doubles play, Box will team up with Spruch, while Rochin and Vang share the court together. This will only be the second time that Box and Spruch will have paired up this fall. Rochin and Vang have played together in both tournaments this fall and have started to develop chemistry on the court that will make them a tough out.
The first round will begin on Wednesday, Oct. 9 at 9 a.m. starting off with doubles play then a full round of singles play will follow.
