Women's Tennis Falls to No. 64 UNLV, 7-0

LAS VEGAS, Nev. – The Northern Arizona women's tennis team were unable to stretch its winning streak to three matches on Friday, falling to No. 64 UNLV at the Fertitta Tennis Complex by a 7-0 score. The Lumberjacks were fresh off two straight sweeps of their own over Weber State and Idaho State, but were defeated in their first of three matches this weekend. The loss dropped NAU's record to 4-6 this spring.

The nationally-ranked Rebels flexed their muscles beginning in doubles play. The freshmen duo of Hannah Stone and Johanna Vang entered play with a 1-0 season record at No. 1, but they could not claim a win in their go-around in the top spot, falling to UNLV's Aleksandra Josifoska and Nives Pavlovic, 8-3. UNLV would proceed to take the other two doubles matches to clinch the doubles point.

Lucia Batta, ranked No. 58 in the nation and unbeaten in singles play this season, got the Rebels going with a 6-0, 6-1 win over junior Ghizelene Doballah at No. 1. Her win was one of four straight-set sweeps in singles play by the home team, as UNLV claimed each of the six singles matches. Stone and junior Alice Pacaut didn't make it easy though, as they each dropped three-setters at No. 2 and 5 to Josifoska and Anett Ferenczi-Bako respectively.

The Lumberjacks will look for a split during their two-match stay in Las Vegas when they return to the courts tomorrow against Nevada in a neutral-site match. The Wolfpack also dropped a 7-0 decision to their in-state rivals on Friday and are now 2-4 on the season.
