LAS VEGAS, Nev. – Juniors Nicole Perez and Ghizelene Doballah advanced to the Flight Four Final with semifinal victories on Day 2 of the UNLV Fall Invitational. Freshman Johanna Vang also won her singles match, giving the NAU women's tennis team three singles victories on Saturday in Las Vegas.
Perez continued her strong fall season, collecting her team-leading fourth singles victory, defeating Gyanna Mandic of Florida Gulf Coast, 7-5, 6-1 to advance to the championship match of her flight. Doballah will join her in the title match after knocking off New Mexico State's Jodie Williams, 6-2, 6-2 in the other semifinal.
Vang recorded her second straight singles victory of the tournament after falling in the quarterfinals of her flight on Friday. Junior Alice Pacaut did not compete in singles play on Saturday, receiving a bye in the consolation round of Flight Three.
The Lumberjacks also opened up doubles play at the UNLV Invite on Saturday, going 1-1 on the day. The team of Pacaut and Perez fell 8-4 to Luci Batta and Aleksandra Josifoska of the host team in the Flight One quarterfinals. Vang and Doballah claimed a win though in their match, defeating Ros-Polly Nguyen and Mandy Mallen of NMSU, 8-1.
The UNLV Invite concludes on Sunday with the finals of the singles and doubles draws beginning at 10 a.m.
