LAS VEGAS, Nev. – A singles victory by junior Nicole Perez highlighted the NAU women's tennis team's first day in Las Vegas for the UNLV Fall Invitational on Friday. Perez defeated Many Mallen of New Mexico State, 6-0, 6-1 in the quarterfinals of Flight Four.
Three other Lumberjacks also made the trip, with freshman Johanna Vang falling, 6-1, 6-1 to UNLV's Manon de Lanlay in the quarterfinals of Flight Two and junior Alice Pacaut dropping her Flight Three quarterfinals match, 6-4, 6-4 to Denise Van Der Ben of NMSU. Vang bounced back to end the day with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Mallen in an additional match. Junior Ghizelene Doballah received a bye into the semifinals of Flight Four and did not compete on Day 1.
Day 2 continues tomorrow beginning at 10 a.m. with doubles play. Doubles quarterfinals and semifinals will be played tomorrow as well as the singles semifinal matches. Perez and Doballah will both see action in the semifinals of Flight Four.
