LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The NAU women's tennis team concluded the Aggie Invitational hosted by New Mexico State on Sunday with three singles wins and a sweep of three doubles matches. The three singles wins brought the Lumberjacks' total to 13 for the weekend and the three doubles wins made it nine in three days.
Junior Malia Wahinepio defeated the Aggies' Mandy Mallen, 6-1, 6-2, for her team-leading third singles victory during the tournament. Juniors Nicole Perez and Ghizelene Doballah also claimed singles wins on Sunday with straight set victories. As a team, all seven Lumberjacks who played at the tournament came away with at least one singles victory.
The Lumberjacks continued to be successful in the doubles draws, finishing the weekend at 9-3 as a team. The pairs of freshman Hannah Stone and junior Alice Pacaut, Perez and Wahinepio, and junior Alice Walker and freshman Johanna Vang, all won on the final day. Each pair finished the tournament with a 3-1 record.
The Lumberjack women will look to build on their success at the Aggie Invitational next weekend at the UNLV Fall Invitational in Las Vegas, Nev. from September 23-25.
