Women’s Tennis Records Third-Straight Sweep, Beats New Mexico State
LAS CRUCES, N.M. – Northern Arizona completed a perfect weekend in Las Cruces, sweeping doubles and singles play in a 7-0 win over New Mexico State, its third 7-0 win in two days in Las Cruces. The Lumberjacks got back to .500 at 5-5 on the season while New Mexico State saw its six-match winning streak snapped and dropped to 6-2.
The Lumberjacks swept doubles to start the day, winning each match by identical 8-4 tallies. The NAU duos of Orsi Golovics and Edit Suhajda at No. 1 and Aimee Oki and Nicole Perez at No. 3 each won their third-consecutive doubles match while the Lumberjack pair of Yumi Hasegawa and Malia Wahinepio at No. 2 made it four-straight doubles wins as NAU claimed the doubles point.
In singles play, Oki got on the board first when her opponent at No. 5 retired in the second set. Golovics notched a 6-3, 6-4 win over New Mexico State's Ginet Pinero at No. 2, with Suhajda posting a 7-5, 6-4 victory at No. 1. Hasegawa outlasted Aggie senior Isabela Kulaif, 6-4, 2-6, 6-3 at No. 3, while three set NAU wins at No. 4 and 6 completed another Lumberjack sweep.
NAU will be back in action next Sunday, February 27, at New Mexico at 10 a.m.
