LAS VEGAS, Nev. – Senior Edit Suhajda dropped her fourth round singles match and the doubles team of Suhajda and senior Yumi Hasegawa was also eliminated in the third round on Friday at the USTA/Intercollegiate Tennis Association Mountain Region Championships. The Lumberjacks did record five consolation singles victories on Thursday and Friday to conclude play in Las Vegas.
Suhajda, who was the only Lumberjack to advance to the singles round of 16, faced New Mexico freshman Michaela Bezdickova for a spot in the quarterfinals. The Lobo freshman won a close first set, 7-5, and took the second set, 6-2, to win the match. Suhajda and Hasegawa faced Natalie Dunn and Caroline Schnell of Denver in the third round of doubles play and dropped a tight 9-8 decision.
The Lumberjacks will continue fall play at the New Mexico Fall Invitational beginning November 5.
