Womens Tennis Advances Three Players to Finals at UC Irvine Invite
IRVINE, Calif. – Juniors Yumi Hasegawa and Aimee Oki and
freshman Nicole Perez won semifinal matches on Saturday to advance
on the second day of the UC Irvine Fall Invitational. Final matches
will be played on Sunday to close play in Southern California.
Hasegawa topped Miranda Young from host UC Irvine, 6-2, 6-3, to advance to the finals of the White bracket. In semifinal matches in the Green bracket, Perez and Oki both claimed victories and will face each other for the bracket title on Sunday. NAU faced players from UC Irvine in five of six singles matches on Saturday.
The Lumberjacks advanced a pair of doubles teams to Sunday’s final round as well, with the easiest win coming from Hasegawa and Perez in an 8-2 win over Bliss Nixon and Maria Garcia-Planas of Loyola Marymount in the Red bracket. Junior Orsi Golovics and freshman Malia Wahinepio were also victorious on Saturday, posting an 8-4 victory over UC Riverside’s Elena Cadet and Roxanne Plata to reach the finals in the Blue bracket.
NAU concludes tournament play, and it’s fall season, beginning at 9 a.m. on Sunday.
