Women's Tennis Stays Perfect in Big Sky, Blasts Weber State 7-0

OGDEN, Utah – Northern Arizona swept singles and doubles to remain undefeated in Big Sky conference play with a 7-0 win over Weber State on Saturday morning in North Salt Lake, Utah. NAU kept pace with undefeated Sacramento State atop the Big Sky at 4-0 in conference play and 9-3 overall while Weber State dropped to 4-13 overall and remained winless in the Big Sky at 0-5.

The Lumberjacks jumped to the early lead by sweeping doubles play in convincing fashion. The easiest win came at No. 3 in an 8-3 victory for NAU juniors Edit Suhjada and Yumi Hasegawa. Junior Aimee Oki and freshman Nicole Perez won their seventh-consecutive doubles match with an 8-5 win at No. 2, while an NAU win by the same score at No. 1 completed a doubles sweep.

Northern Arizona would dominate singles play as well, sweeping all-six matches and winning four matches in straight sets. Suhajda improved to 2-0 at No. 1 singles with a 6-4, 6-0 win over Weber State's Keya Jenkins while fellow junior Orsi Golovics cruised to a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 2. Freshman Malia Wahinepio improved her team-best record to 10-2 with a 7-6, 6-2 win at No. 4 while Perez and Hasegawa each won their eighth-consecutive match at No. 5 and 6, respectively. Oki battled for a 6-4, 2-6, 10-8 win at No. 3 to complete a sweep for Northern Arizona and give the Lumberjacks their fourth-consecutive victory and eighth win in their last nine matches.

The Lumberjacks look to stay hot and remain undefeated in the Big Sky on Sunday, facing Idaho State at 1 p.m. local time in Pocatello.
