Women’s Tennis Defeats Montana State; Set to Face Sacramento State in Big Sky Final

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Northern Arizona women’s tennis defeated Montana State on Saturday 4-1 at the Gold River Racquet Club in the semifinal round to advance to the Big Sky Championships final. The Lumberjacks will play No. 1 seed Sacramento State (18-8, 8-0 BSC) on Sunday, April 26.

After dropping the doubles point in straight matches, NAU (13-9, 6-2 BSC) recorded four straight singles wins to clinch its fourth-consecutive Championship final appearance.

Kim Van Ginkel tied the score at 1-1 with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Montana State’s Laura Villegas at No. 3 singles. Edit Suhajda won at No. 1 over the Bears’ Stephanie Jasper (6-2, 6-4).

With the score 2-1 Leslie Vial bested Montana State’s Ali Griffin (6-2, 6-2) at No. 4 and Yumi Hasegawa clinched the victory for NAU downing Andrea De La Torre (6-4, 6-4) at No. 6.

The Lumberjacks will face No. 56 Sacramento State in the Championship final for an automatic bid into the NCAA Championships. The Hornets will make their eighth straight finals appearance.
