FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Jori Lindquist was a busy swimmer at her first WAC Championships in March, finishing 10th in the 100 backstroke and 11th in the 200 backstroke as part of four individual events in addition to swimming in the 200 medley, 200 freestyle and 400 freestyle relays. Gold Edges Blue, 54-50, in Final Intrasquad Scrimmage
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Fresh faces performed well, but it was seniors Alexis Juergens and Caitlin Wright who shined the brightest on Friday in the Northern Arizona swimming & diving team's annual Blue vs. Gold Meet. The two Lumberjack seniors each won two events, but it was Juergens' Gold team who was victorious in the intrasquad meet, holding off the Blue team by a 54-50 score.

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Just two weeks away from their first dual meet of the season, the Northern Arizona swimming & diving team will hold their annual Blue vs. Gold meet on Friday, 2 p.m. in the Wall Aquatic Center. The final intrasquad meet before the team’s Oct. 25 season opening dual at New Mexico is free for all fans to attend.

Brown Takes Pentathlon Crown, Freshmen Shine in NAU Debuts
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Junior Kendall Brown put together a solid all-around performance to win the Northern Arizona swimming & diving team’s annual Pentathlon on Friday, in the team’s debut showing for the 2014-15 season. The Pentathlon tested the team’s endurance and versatility in the five-event intrasquad meet and also served as a successful debut for the NAU freshmen in their first collegiate racing setting.

NAU Student-Athletes Welcome Incoming Lumberjack Freshmen
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Nearly 200 Northern Arizona student-athletes helped greet the incoming NAU Class of 2018 over the last two days in partnership with Welcome Back Jacks. The student-athletes along with a number of student groups at times battled the rainy Flagstaff weather and volunteered to assist the new freshmen and their families move into their new home for the upcoming school year.

Chelsea Jackson Represents NAU at USA Diving Nationals
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Junior Chelsea Jackson competed at the USA Diving AT&T National Championships on Friday, finishing 29th in the 3-meter springboard preliminary. Although she was unable to advance to the afternoon's semifinals, the experience was invaluable for the Lumberjack diver.

Jackson Qualifies for First USA Diving National Championship
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – It has been a great summer for Northern Arizona diver Chelsea Jackson and the Flagstaff native is hoping for even bigger things next week when she competes at the USA Diving AT&T National Championships in Knoxville, Tenn. Jackson qualified for her first National Championships last month after her shining performance on the 3-meter springboard at the Preliminary Zone D Championships.

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The 18th Annual Wine & Dine in the Pines will take place Sunday, August 17 at the Hart Prairie Lodge at Arizona Snowbowl. Swim & Dive Releases 2014-15 Schedule to Defend WAC Crown
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The 2014 Western Athletic Conference champion Northern Arizona swimming & diving team will begin their quest towards a repeat on Oct. 25 in Albuquerque, N.M. versus New Mexico in the opening dual meet of the 2014-15 schedule. The Lumberjacks will begin the season with three consecutive dual meets on the road in what will be a challenging, yet familiar slate this upcoming season.

Burnes, Jackson & Geiger Earn CSCAA Scholar All-American Awards
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Three Northern Arizona swimming & diving student-athletes were named Honorable Mention Scholar All-Americans by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) on Monday. Jordan Burnes, Chelsea Jackson and Alexa Geiger were recognized individually for their academic success, giving NAU a WAC-best three honorees.

'Jacks Among the Nation's Elite, Posts Seventh Best Spring GPA
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The Northern Arizona swimming & diving team capped off an outstanding 2013-14 academic year with a stellar spring semester in the classroom. Announced on Thursday, the Lumberjacks were named a Scholar All-American Team by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) as they finished with a 3.58 spring team GPA, placing them in a tie for seventh among the country's swimming & diving squads.

Lumberjack Trio Named to Academic All-WAC Team
DENVER, Colo. – Alexa Geiger, Sara Lenhoff and Jori Lindquist each garnered WAC All-Academic honors on Monday to give the Lumberjacks 22 All-Academic performers for the year. In April, the Northern Arizona swimming & diving team placed 19 student-athletes on the Winter All-Academic team, which led all WAC winter teams. The trio needed to complete a full academic year at NAU before becoming eligible.

Jacobsen, Smith Receive Big Sky's Top Scholar Athlete Award
OGDEN, Utah – Max Jacobsen and Stirling Smith were announced as NAU’s 2014 Big Sky Conference Scholar Athlete Award recipients on Thursday for their athletic and academic performance during the 2013-14 school year. Jacobsen and Smith were the top Senior Golden Eagle scholar-athlete honorees at the annual Golden Eagle Awards banquet in April.

Swimming & Diving Receives Three NLIs During Spring Period
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The Northern Arizona swimming & diving team took another step towards filling the void left by its decorated graduated senior class with the addition of three incoming freshmen who signed their National Letters of Intent during the spring signing period. The Lumberjacks received commitments from a pair of international swimmers and an elite diver from California to further reload their WAC Championship squad heading into the fall.

Women’s Tennis and Swimming & Diving Rank in Top 10 Percent
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Northern Arizona women’s tennis and swimming & diving were both honored by the NCAA for earning Public Recognition Awards, based on their most recent multi-year Academic Progress Rate. These awards are given each year to teams with APRs in the top 10 percent in each sport. This is the second straight year women’s tennis has received the honor.

Forty-Three Student-Athletes to Receive Degrees This Weekend
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Forty-three Northern Arizona student-athletes will receive their degrees from the university this weekend as part of the Spring 2014 commencement ceremonies. When adding in the 15 student-athletes who participated in the Fall 2013 commencement ceremonies, the NAU Athletics Department produced a total of 58 graduates for the 2013-14 academic year.

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Wednesday was a huge day for NAU Athletics as Northern Arizona University held the groundbreaking ceremonies for the new North Campus Athletics & Recreation Center (NC ARC). FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Four Northern Arizona University student-athletes were recognized among their graduating peers Tuesday night with the prestigious Gold Axe Award. FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The Northern Arizona University Athletics Department held its 36th annual Golden Eagle Awards Tuesday at the High Country Conference Center to recognize its student-athletes for their stellar work in the classroom. Golden Eagle Distributors, Inc., honored 199 Lumberjack student-athletes for their scholastic and athletic accomplishments. The award recognizes student-athletes who maintain at least a 3.0 grade point average.

DENVER, Colo. – The Western Athletic Conference honored 19 swimming & diving student-athletes on Wednesday for their outstanding work in the classroom with the 2014 Winter All-Academic awards. The Lumberjacks led all WAC swimming & diving institutions – eight women teams and seven men teams – with their 19 honorees as no other program had more than 16.

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – After winning their first Western Athletic Conference championship in program history, the Northern Arizona swimming & diving team finished the 2013-14 season ranked No. 25 in the final CollegeSwimming.com Mid-Major Poll. The Lumberjacks earned a total of 939.56 points to earn their national ranking.

Swim & Dive Named CSCAA Scholar-All-American Team
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The Northern Arizona swimming & diving team was once again recognized by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) for their outstanding work in the classroom as they were named a CSCAA Scholar All-American Team for the 2013 fall semester. The Lumberjacks posted a team GPA of 3.36 for the semester.

Jackson Advances to Zone 3-Meter Finals, Finishes 15th
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Sophomore Chelsea Jackson earned her second NCAA Zone finals qualifier in as many years on Friday, finishing 15th overall on the 3-meter springboard on Day 2 of the NCAA Zone E Meet. Jackson improved a total of 27 spots from her 42nd-place finish on 3-meter a year ago.

Geiger Shines for NAU on First Day of NCAA Zone Meet
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Freshman Alexa Geiger made quite the splash in her first NCAA Zone appearance on Thursday, finishing 22nd overall out of 61 divers in 1-meter competition. Geiger finished four spots out of the top-18 qualifying spots for the finals and led three Northern Arizona divers on the first day of the NCAA Zone E meet at Air Force's Cadet Natatorium.

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Riding a pair of top-three sweeps in the 1650 freestyle and 200 breaststroke as well as all four divers scoring points among a host of other highlights, the Northern Arizona swimming & diving team captured their first ever Western Athletic Conference championship in program history on Saturday running away with the title. Postmeet, Head Coach Andy Johns was named the WAC's Coach of the Year for the second time in his NAU tenure.

'Jacks Place 10 in Top-8, Head into Final Day Atop at WAC
SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Headlined by silver medal finishes by sophomore Kendall Brown in the 400 IM and senior Jordan Burnes in the 100 breaststroke, the Northern Arizona swimming & diving team had their best day in San Antonio so far this week on Friday, placing 10 swimmers in the top-eight of the five individual events. Behind their superb showing on day three, the Lumberjacks will head into the final day of competition with a 476-457 lead over Idaho at the WAC Swimming & Diving Championships.

NAU Maintains First Halfway Through WAC Championships
SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The Northern Arizona swimming & diving team maintained their spot atop the leaderboard, albeit by a small margin, at the WAC Swimming & Diving Championships following a successful night session to cap off the second day of competition. With 273 points, the Lumberjacks are six points ahead of Idaho halfway through the four-day meet and placed six athletes in the top-five of Thursday’s individual events.

NAU Wraps Up Day One of WAC Championships Tied for First
SAN ANTONIO, Texas – All four NAU divers scored in the first of three diving events this week and the Northern Arizona swimming & diving team capped off a solid first day at the WAC Championships with a thrilling third-place finish in the 800 freestyle relay. The Lumberjacks finished Thursday’s competition at the Palo Alto College Aquatic Center squared up atop the scoreboard with Idaho with 106 points.

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The Northern Arizona swimming & diving team has finished runner-up at the Western Athletic Conference Championships four of the last six years. With a decorated senior class hungry to cap off their careers with a title and a talented group of youngsters to pair, the Lumberjacks are poised to capture that elusive WAC title this week at the conference championship. The wide open four-day chase begins on Wednesday and runs through Saturday at the Palo Alto College Aquatic Center in San Antonio, Texas.

Brown, Geiger Sweep WAC Swim & Dive Weekly Awards
DENVER, Colo. – Following a Senior Day win over conference rival and in-state foe Grand Canyon on Saturday, two of the Northern Arizona swimming & diving team's underclassmen are the class of the Western Athletic Conference this week. Sophomore Kendall Brown and freshman Alexa Geiger were rewarded with the WAC Women's Swimmer of the Week and Diver of the Week honors respectively on Tuesday after helping the Lumberjacks to a 168-125 victory over the Antelopes. It marks the second time this season that the Lumberjacks have swept the weekly conference awards.

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Tied 92-92 through 10 events, the Northern Arizona swimming & diving team won three consecutive events, highlighted by a sweep of the top-three spots in the 200 breaststroke, to pull away late. The Lumberjacks wrapped up their regular season with a 168-125 win over Grand Canyon on Senior Day, sending their nine seniors out with a victory in their final home dual meet of their careers, a meet in which nine new pool records were set.

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The Northern Arizona swimming & diving team will host in-state and WAC rival Grand Canyon on Saturday at 11 a.m. in the Wall Aquatic Center. The meet is the Lumberjacks' first in their home facility since Nov. 2 and will be the team's final competition before the WAC Championship at the end of the month. Admission is free for all fans.

Jackson Places 11th on 3-meter to Conclude Air Force Diving
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – After an all-around impressive day on Friday, the Northern Arizona divers concluded the two-day Air Force Diving Invitational on Saturday with the 3-meter competition at the Cadet Natatorium. Sophomore Chelsea Jackson advanced to the finals and finished 11th overall with a score of 272.80 to lead four Lumberjack divers.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Sophomore Chelsea Jackson and senior Gwen Smithberg shined on the first day of the Air Force Diving Invitational as the Northern Arizona divers had an all-around impressive showing on Friday. Jackson and Smithberg both clinched third-place finishes on 1-meter and platform respectively against divers from 16 universities.

Lumberjacks Dive into Air Force Diving Invitational
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – In their final big showcase before the WAC Championships next month, the Northern Arizona divers will compete in the Air Force Diving Invitational this Friday and Saturday at the Air Force Academy's Cadet Natatorium. The Lumberjacks will be one of 16 participating schools, including three other Western Athletic Conference opponents in Idaho, New Mexico State and Northern Colorado.

NAU Swimmers Post Solid Day in Phoenix Against WAC Foes
PHOENIX, Ariz. – The Northern Arizona swimming team got a glance of in-state and Western Athletic Conference rival Grand Canyon Saturday morning in Phoenix in an exhibition meet that also featured New Mexico State. The three conference foes will all meet in San Antonio at the end of February for the WAC Championships and the Lumberjacks will host Grand Canyon on Feb. 8 in their final dual meet of the season. Saturday’s exhibition meet was a fine opportunity for the Lumberjacks to size up themselves versus both New Mexico State and Grand Canyon with a month prior to the championships.

Swimming Takes to the Pool in Phoenix on Saturday
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – With the WAC Championships are just over a month away, the Northern Arizona swimming team will have the opportunity to size up two of their conference foes, Grand Canyon and New Mexico State, this Saturday in an exhibition style meet. The meet will start at 1 p.m. at Phoenix Swim Club's Dottie Boreyko/Brophy Sports Campus in Phoenix.

NAU Athletics Hosts 2nd Annual National Girls & Women in Sports Day
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The Northern Arizona athletics department will once again celebrate National Girls and Women in Sports Day for the second consecutive year with a celebration that will stretch over two weekends in February. The celebration will begin on Saturday, Feb. 8, with a Youth Sports Symposium in conjunction with the NAU men’s basketball game against Southern Utah that night and will continue the following weekend with a meet and greet and halftime recognition at the NAU women’s basketball game against Eastern Washington. The clinic on Feb. 8 is open to all youth, both boys and girls, in 1st-8th grade and requires pre-registration.

Swim & Dive Falls Short to Arizona, Oregon State
TUCSON, Ariz. – The Northern Arizona swimming & diving team came up short in their double dual to Arizona and Oregon State Friday afternoon at UA's Hillenbrand Aquatic Center, but it was not without a number of strong performances by several of their athletes. Senior Rachel Palmer claimed two individual wins versus Oregon State and sophomore Chelsea Jackson placed first overall on 1-meter as NAU fell 188-107 to Arizona and 157-137 to Oregon State.

NAU Starts 2014 in Tucson in Pac-12 Televised Double Dual
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – For the ninth consecutive year, the Northern Arizona swimming & diving team will pair their trip south to Tucson into an opportunity to compete against two premier Pac-12 squads. The Lumberjacks will compete in a televised double dual with Arizona and Oregon State on Friday at UA's Hillenbrand Aquatic Center beginning at 1:00 p.m. The meet will be televised on the Pac-12 network on a tape delay broadcast.

Gwen Smithberg Tabbed WAC Diver of the Week
DENVER, Colo. – Senior Gwen Smithberg was named the Western Athletic Conference's Diver of the Week on Tuesday after helping the Northern Arizona swimming & diving team to a victory at fellow WAC foe New Mexico State last Saturday. The weekly award is the fourth this season for the Lumberjacks from the conference office and the first of Smithberg's career.

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The Northern Arizona swimming & diving team were led by two of their best on Saturday as seniors Emma Lowther and Rachel Palmer each won two individual events in the Lumberjacks' 171-129 victory over New Mexico State. The win boosted their record to 4-1 in dual meets this season and snapped a two-meet losing streak to the Aggies in Las Cruces.

FORT COLLINS, Colo. – In a closely contested, see-saw dual meet, Colorado State ultimately ended the Northern Arizona swimming & diving team's undefeated start to the 2013-14 season Saturday morning, 152-148, after edging out the Lumberjacks in the day's final relay event. NAU fought its way back after a trailing through the first five events, but narrowly fell to 3-1 this season.

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The Northern Arizona swimming & diving team hits the road for the first time this season as it travels to the Centennial State to face Northern Colorado and Colorado State Friday at 5 p.m. and Saturday at 12 p.m. respectively. It will not mark the first road trip of the season for the Lumberjacks, but also the first time they will compete on consecutive days, which is something they will need to get acclimated to.

Lowther Breaks Own Meet Record, Wins Pentathlon Title
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Senior Emma Lowther broke her own meet record in the 100 free, the final event of the day, with a time of 59.01 to clinch the NAU Pentathlon title Friday afternoon in the Wall Aquatic Center. Lowther’s win in the 100 free capped off a successful season debut for the senior from Cockle Bay, New Zealand that included runner-up finishes in the 200 IM and 100 fly.

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The 2013-14 Northern Arizona swimming & diving season begins this Friday with the team's 18th annual Pentathlon in the Wall Aquatic Center. Ardavanis, Smithberg Lead Divers at Arizona Diving Invite
TUCSON, Ariz. – Senior Kristy Ardavanis placed third in the 1-meter diving consolation final and junior Gwen Smithberg placed sixth overall on platform to lead NAU at the Arizona Wildcat Invite this weekend in Tucson. The Lumberjacks had all six of their divers competing in a field of more than 40 of the top collegiate divers in the region.

MOSCOW, Idaho – Competing on the second consecutive day and without several key swimmers, the NAU swimming & diving team got event wins from senior Kristy Ardavanis, junior Emma Lowther, and sophomore Caitlin Wright but Idaho won 13 of 16 events and broke two school records in a 177.5-122.5 victory.

Swimming Comes Up Just Short at Washington State
PULLMAN, Wash. – NAU junior Jordan Burnes and freshman Ellie Morrissey each won two events and a short-handed Lumberjacks squad had a chance to win going into the final events of the meet before Washington State held on for a 146-116 win on Friday evening in Pullman, Wash. The dual, which only contained swimming as the Cougars don’t have a diving team, was NAU’s first loss of the season after a 3-0 start in dual competition.

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The NAU swimming & diving team (3-0) competes on consecutive days this weekend facing Washington State (2-5) at 6 p.m. Friday and WAC foe Idaho (2-3) at 10:30 a.m. Saturday. Thomas Named Swimming & Diving Assistant; Media Guide Available
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Laura Thomas has joined the NAU swimming & diving program as an assistant coach, head coach Andy Johns announced Monday. A two-time NCAA All-American swimmer at Georgia, Thomas has founded two aquatic clubs and been a head coach for three club teams and a high school team with more than 15 years of experience in the state of Georgia.

Ardavanis Earns Sixth Career WAC Diver of the Week Honor
DENVER, Colo. – NAU senior diver Kristy Ardavanis picked up right where she left off last year in opening her season with this week’s WAC Diver of the Week award after receiving the honor five times during the 2011-12 season. Ardavanis posted the top NAU scores on both 1-meter and 3-meter against New Mexico and helped lead the Lumberjacks to a 152-148 win over the Lobos.

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Juniors Emma Lowther and Rachel Palmer each won two events as NAU won seven individual races and took the 400 freestyle relay to end the meet and score a 152-148 win over New Mexico on Saturday afternoon. The Lumberjacks have now defeated Arizona State of the Pac-12 and New Mexico of the Mountain West in their two meets thus far in the 2012-13 season.

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Following two intersquad meets and a win over Arizona State in a unique relay meet the NAU swimming & diving team will face New Mexico at 11 a.m. Arizona time Saturday in its first road competition of the season. Saturday will be the 25th all-time meeting between NAU and New Mexico with the all-time dual record between the teams even at 12-12, though they have not faced each other since meeting twice in 2008.

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The NAU swimming & diving team won three of six events vs. Arizona State and defeated the Sun Devils, 57-49, in a mixed relay dual with the Arizona State men’s swimming team on Saturday in Wall Aquatic Center. Hosting Arizona State for the first time since 2003, the Lumberjacks earned their first win over the Sun Devils in program history before both teams volunteered for a clinic with youth swimmers immediately following the meet.

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. - A tie in the last event of the day, the 200 freestyle relay, concluded a highly competitive Blue-Gold meet and gave the Gold team a narrow 52.5-51.5 win in the squad’s annual intersquad event. Senior diver Kristy Ardavanis and junior swimmer Rachel Palmer each won two events as the meet came down to the final race.

Swimming & Diving Helps Plant Trees at Schultz Fire Burn Area
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Twenty-four members of the Northern Arizona women’s swimming & diving team along with head coach Andy Johns planted approximately 650 trees on Saturday at the White Vulcan mine just north of the Schultz Fire burn area. The NAU student-athletes spent three and a half hours digging and planting trees on half-acre plots and helping the Flagstaff Ranger District repopulate a portion of the Coconino National Forest.

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The NAU women’s swimming & diving team and both the Arizona State men’s and women’s teams will hold a meet and free clinic for youth swimmers next Saturday, Oct. 13, at 10:30 a.m. in Wall Aquatic Center. Originally scheduled to take place in Sedona, the teams will compete in a meet consisting of relay races and then host a free one hour clinic with local boys and girls swimmers while accepting donations for St. Mary’s Food Bank.

Swimming Assistant Coach Fuccillo Accepts Position at LSU
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. - NAU swimming & diving assistant coach Jeana Fuccillo has accepted an offer to become an assistant coach at LSU. Fuccillo has been an assistant coach for the Lumberjacks for two seasons after serving as a volunteer assistant for one year and as a graduate assistant in academics at NAU for two years, having spent five years within the NAU athletics department.

Palmer Repeats as Pentathlon Champion to Open Swimming Season
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Junior Rachel Palmer broke the pool and meet records with a time of 2:21.67 in the 200 individual medley and also won the 100 backstroke and took second in the 100 butterfly to win the NAU Pentathlon for the second consecutive year Friday afternoon in Wall Aquatic Center. Junior Emma Lowther won both the 100 fly and 100 freestyle and was second in the 200 IM to take second among the 24 Lumberjack swimmers competing in the event.

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – NAU’s swimmers will open 2012-13 competition at 2 p.m. Friday in the 17th annual Pentathlon in Wall Aquatic Center, the first of two intersquad meets the team will hold in preparation for its season opener with Arizona State on Oct. 13. The 24 Lumberjack swimmers on the 2012-13 roster will compete in the 200 Individual Medley as well as 100 meter races in the butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke, and free style.

OGDEN, Utah – Senior swimmer Kristin Jones and senior thrower Pascal Tang have been named as NAU’s 2012 Big Sky Scholar Athlete Award winners. Swimming & Diving Adds Nine Newcomers for 2012-13 Season
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – NAU Swimming & Diving head coach Andy Johns announced that seven swimmers and two divers will join the Lumberjack program for the 2012-13 season. The team now has 11 newcomers slated to join the squad after a pair of swimmers, Kendall Brown and Ellie Morrissey, committed during the fall signing period. The large recruiting class will help offset the loss of three swimmers and two divers to graduation.

SOMERS, Wisc. – NAU junior swimmer Fi Connell and sophomores Jordan Burnes, Emma Lowther, and Rachel Palmer have been named Mid-Major All-Americans by CollegeSwimming.com. The award is the third in as many seasons for Connell while Lowther earned her second All-America honor and Burnes and Palmer received the national accolade for the first time.

DENVER, Colo. – The Western Athletic Conference (WAC) has announced that 14 members of the NAU swimming & diving team have received Academic All-WAC honors for the 2011-12 season. Five more Lumberjacks had qualifying grade point averages and may be added to the list following the spring semester, at which time they will have completed one academic year at the university and qualify for the award.

U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. – NAU junior diver Kristy Ardavanis advanced to the 3-meter final and finished 12th overall with a 566.60 total to record NAU’s best finish thus far at the NCAA Zone E Diving Regional at the Air Force Academy. Ardavanis placed 13th in the prelim before moving up a spot in the final to finish 12th among the 41 competitors.

U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. – NAU junior diver Kristy Ardavanis posted a 245.05 preliminary score to lead four Lumberjacks competing on the 1-meter springboard at the NCAA Zone E Diving Regional hosted by the Air Force Academy. Ardavanis placed 24th overall among the 44 divers from 19 western universities competing on the first of three days at the NCAA Championship qualifying meet.

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – Swimmers Fi Connell and Kristin Jones and diver Kristy Ardavanis each won two events, but New Mexico State won both relays and eight individual events to claim a 161-138 win over the Lumberjacks on Saturday in Las Cruces. NAU dropped to 5-2 in duals with the loss as the Aggies improved to 2-2.

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The 5-1 NAU women’s swimming & diving team will compete in its last dual of the semester at 11:30 a.m. Saturday against WAC foe New Mexico State at the NM State Natatorium in Las Cruces. Two Swimmers Sign NLIs to Join NAU Program
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – A pair of swimmers from Orange County in southern California have signed national letters of intent to swim at NAU at next year, head coach Andy Johns announced. Kendall Brown (Aliso Viejo, Calif./Laguna Hills HS) and Ellie Morrissey (Huntington Beach, Calif./Edison HS) both signed as early commitments to enroll at Northern Arizona next fall.

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Sophomore Rachel Palmer won two events and seven other Lumberjacks were individual event winners as Northern Arizona defeated Washington State, 161-133, on Monday afternoon in Wall Aquatic Center. Both teams broke the previous pool record in the 400 freestyle relay to end the meet, with NAU improving to 5-1 in dual meets this season and Washington State dropping to 0-5.

TUCSON, Ariz. – Sophomore Gwen Smithberg posted a 10th place finish on the platform to lead five Lumberjacks competing on the final day of the Wildcat Diving Invite. TUCSON, Ariz. – The NAU diving team posted impressive results in Saturday’s 1-meter competition at the Wildcat Diving invite, with all-five NAU competitors finishing in the top-40 in the 16-team field. Junior Kristy Ardavanis again paced the Lumberjacks with an 11th place prelim score and placed third in the consolation final for the second-consecutive day.

TUCSON, Ariz. – Junior Kristy Ardavanis reached the consolation final and placed third in the 3-meter competition to lead NAU on the opening day of the Wildcat Diving Invite. Ardavanis placed 11th in the preliminary round and scored a 258.65 total in the consolation final to lead five Lumberjacks competing with 16 other schools in the 3-meter event.

Diving to Face Elite Competition at Wildcat Invite
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The NAU women’s diving team, which has swept both diving events in each of its four meets this season, will compete in Tucson this weekend in the Wildcat Diving Invite hosted by the University of Arizona. NAU will be one of 16 schools competing in the event, which includes six Pac-12 teams. The meet begins with 3-meter diving on Friday followed by 1-meter on Saturday and platform on Sunday, the first time this season that NAU will be competing on the platform.

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Juniors Kristy Ardavanis and Fi Connell and sophomores Jordan Burnes, Emma Lowther, and Rachel Palmer each won two events, as NAU was victories in 14 of 16 events overall to cruise to a 155.5-133.5 victory over Idaho Saturday morning in Wall Aquatic Center. NAU had a 155.50-70.50 lead through 12 events, clinching the meet and not scoring in the four remaining events. The Lumberjacks improved to 7-0 all-time against fellow WAC member Idaho.

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – A large group of NAU swimming & diving alumni, including members from the former NAU men’s swimming and diving team, returned to Flagstaff this weekend for a meet with the current Lumberjack team and a homecoming gathering. For most of the former athletes, Friday’s meet was the first time that they had been in the Wall Aquatic Center pool since their time as NAU students.

NAU Swimmer Jones Builds Aquatic Passion into Triathlon Success
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. - To say that NAU senior swimmer Kristin Jones likes to compete in a variety of events would be an understatement. Last season, the Juneau, Alaska native swam in four events at the WAC Championships, recording a team season-best time in the 100 butterfly while also swimming in the 400 individual medley and the 500 and 1650 freestyle, but she also competed in eight other events during the regular season.

Palmer, Connell Lead Swimming and Diving in Annual Pentathlon
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Sophomore Rachel Palmer set a meet record with a time of 2 minutes, 23.41 seconds in the 200 individual medley and finished second in the 100 butterfly, 100 backstroke, and 100 breaststroke to win the 2011 NAU Pentathlon on Friday afternoon in Wall Aquatic Center. Junior Fi Connell, who won the event last year, claimed first place in the 100 back and finished second among the 17 competitors in the 16th annual season opening event.

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The Northern Arizona women’s swimming and diving team will begin its 2011-12 campaign by hosting the 16th annual intersquad pentathlon on Friday at 2 p.m. with free admission in Wall Aquatic Center. All 18 swimmers on the Lumberjack roster will compete in the five events (200 individual medley, 100 butterfly, 100 backstroke, 100 breaststroke and 100 freestyle) with four heats for each event.

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The Northern Arizona swimming and diving team has released its 2011-12 schedule, which commences with the team’s annual pentathlon on Friday, September 23, at 2:00 p.m. The squad will also host its blue-gold and alumni meets in Wall Aquatic Center in October before hosting Idaho to begin the dual season on November 5. NAU will also host Washington State for a dual meet in Flagstaff on November 21.

Swimmers Lowther and Palmer Compete in New Zealand Nationals
WELLINGTON, New Zealand – NAU sophomore swimmers Emma Lowther and Rachel Palmer recently competed in their home country of New Zealand in the State Insurance 2011 New Zealand Short Course Championships at the Wellington Regional Aquatic Centre. The duo each finished in the top 20 in every event in which they competed and both posted individual fourth place finishes competing against the best swimmers in the country.

Swimming and Diving adds Nine for 2011-12 Season
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The NAU swimming and diving team has added nine student-athletes for the upcoming season, head coach Andy Johns announced. The recruiting class features six swimmers and three divers that will join the Lumberjacks after the program lost 10 letter winners following the 2010-11 season. Four of the recruits are from Arizona, including Flagstaff native Meagan Morrison, who will be the first local to compete for Johns in his 16 years leading the program.

Wall Aquatic Center Continues To House World Class Swimmers
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Northern Arizona’s Wall Aquatic Center has once again reinforced it’s moniker of “where the world comes to train” in 2011, as 12 individual athletes and one relay team representing five countries used the facility before competing in the 2011 FINA World Aquatics Championships in Shanghai, China from July 16-31. The Flagstaff-trained athletes combined for five gold medals, three silvers and one bronze among the twenty events in which they competed.

NAU Swimmers Train with Paralympic World Recorder Holder Pascoe
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Northern Arizona senior Krista Maier and incoming freshman Meagan Morrison got a chance to train last weekend with Paralympian New Zealander Sophie Pascoe, who was training in Flagstaff at Wall Aquatic Center for the past three weeks. Pascoe holds the world record in the 100 butterfly and won three gold medals and one silver at the 2008 Paralympics in Beijing.

Swimmer Connell Reaches Championship at Australian Nationals
ADELAIDE, Australia – Northern Arizona junior swimmer Fi Connell recently competed at the Australian Short Course National Championship, advancing to the final round of the 100 meter backstroke and finishing eighth out of 60 competitors, including members of the Australian national team. Connell competed in both the 100 and 200 meter backstroke events, finishing eighth in the 100 back final and setting a personal record of 1:00.58 in the event in Adelaide, Australia.

OGDEN, Utah – Northern Arizona had 29 student-athletes earn 2011 Spring All-Academic honors from the Big Sky, the conference announced Friday. FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Kristin Jones takes activity to another level. In between 40-mile bike rides and Triathlon competitions, Jones is one of the top returners for the 2010-11 Northern Arizona swimming and diving team. This past summer, she returned to her hometown of Juneau, Alaska, guiding the Bike and Brew Tours for Cycle Alaska, an uncommon summer job for most college students but a perfect fit a 20-year old outdoor fanatic.

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The Northern Arizona women’s swimming and diving team will participate in “Relay For Life of NAU” this Friday, April 9 in the Walkup Skydome. FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Fiona Connell set an unofficial pool record in the 100 backstroke and scored a meet-high 3970 points as Northern Arizona swimming and diving opened the 2009-10 season with the 14th annual Pentathlon held at Wall Aquatic Center on Friday. Campbell swam a time of 1:04.29 in the Lumberjacks first of two exhibitions this fall.

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The Northern Arizona swimming and diving team enters the water for its first competition of the 2009-10 season at the Wall Aquatic Center for the 14th annual Pentathlon. The event will begin at 2 p.m., this Friday, September 25.
