    Swimming & Diving Cruises to 168-127 Victory Over NMSU FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The Northern Arizona swimming & diving team blazed through the first half of Saturday's dual meet and coasted to victory, 168-127, over New Mexico State in the Aquatic and Tennis Complex. The Lumberjacks won 13 of the 16 events – including the first nine – and made a midseason statement in a matchup between last spring's top two finishers at the Western Athletic Conference Championships.

The Lumberjacks will host New Mexico State at 11 a.m. in a dual meet between the top two teams at last season's WAC Championships. Admission is free for all fans to attend.

    Swimming & Diving Receives 10 Commitments for 2017-18 Season FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – A little short on depth this season, head coach Andy Johns and diving coach Nikki Huffman addressed the issue and then some with their fall additions to the Northern Arizona swimming & diving roster for the 2017-18 season. The Lumberjacks received commitments from 10 student-athletes, all of whom will be incoming freshmen next fall.

The Lumberjacks finished fifth in the six-team meet with 353 points and garnered 13 second-session swims on Sunday before heading back to Flagstaff.

    NAU Student-Athletes Continue to Graduate at a High Rate INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Northern Arizona University’s NCAA Graduation Success Rate of 84 leads the Big Sky Conference, according to a national report released Tuesday. The NCAA developed the GSR for Division I institutions in 2002 in response to college and university presidents who wanted more accurate graduation data. NAU’s rate is the second-highest in the state of Arizona amongst the Regent institutions.

The Lumberjacks won 12 of 16 events and totally commanded the meet, their first against a Western Athletic Conference opponent this season.

The Lumberjacks picked up victories in the final two events and are now 0-4 in dual meets – with two of the four losses coming to Pac-12 foes – this season.

    Gold Rallies Past Blue in Swimming & Diving Intrasquad Dual FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Friday's Blue vs. Gold meet came down to the final relay, and with junior Alina Staffeldt out-touching junior Roni Houck at the wall; the Gold team completed a comeback to edge out a 54-50 victory in the Northern Arizona swimming & diving intrasquad dual. The Gold team won seven of the 12 events, including the final two, to rally from a 10-point deficit heading into the final two events.

The Lumberjacks dropped both ends of the double dual, 222-77 to Arizona and 163-136 to Hawaii, but received wins from junior Alina Staffeldt (200 butterfly), senior Urte Kazakeviciute (200 breaststroke) and Tanya Kurach (1-meter diving).

Sophomore Monique King claimed the individual crown racking up a total of 3,530 points, while senior Urte Kazakeviciute and junior Alina Staffeldt set new meet records in the 100m breaststroke and 100m butterfly respectively.

Bestowed on teams with a grade point average of at least 3.00, the Lumberjacks received the award for their exceptional performance in the classroom during the spring semester with a team GPA of 3.44.

Senior diver Chelsea Jackson and senior distance runner Alejandro Montano were selected as the Scholar-Athletes of the Year during another outstanding luncheon.

    Denesik, Huff, Gaskell and Vander Ploeg Receive NAU Gold Axe Award FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The Gold Axe Award is rich in history at Northern Arizona University. Awarded to exceptional graduating seniors each semester, the Gold Axe is a symbol of all-around excellence and contribution to the university. What is also rich in history is the NAU Athletics representation during the award ceremony and the Spring 2016 semester was no different as Jordan Denesik (women’s tennis), Alex Huff (swimming & diving), Kirsten Gaskell (dance) and Janae Vander Ploeg (volleyball) were among the 43 recipients on Monday night. In addition, Huff was also named the Distinguished Senior for the College of Engineering, Forestry and Natural Sciences.
