FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – An idea 15 years in the making to benefit kids within the city of Flagstaff finally came to fruition. With Lumberjack Aquatics at the head of it and the Northern Arizona swimmers providing the instruction, the two entities conducted a total of four swim lessons – free of charge – over the past three weeks.
MESA, Ariz. – Sharing the same pool deck as a number of recent Olympians, eight Northern Arizona swimmers competed at the 2017 Arena Pro Swim Series last weekend at the Skyline Aquatic Center. Of the eight, senior Urte Kazakeviciute and junior Alina Staffeldt shined the brightest with each earning multiple evening swims.
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Northern Arizona football senior Patrick Baldenegro and women’s basketball senior Rene Coggins were honored as the Golden Eagle Scholar Athletes of the Year on Tuesday during the 39th annual Golden Eagle Awards luncheon. A total of 190 student-athletes across all 15 of NAU’s athletic programs were honored at the High Country Conference Center.
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – After adding 10 incoming freshmen to their 2017-18 roster during the fall signing period, the Northern Arizona swimming & diving team nabbed three more new Lumberjacks last week bringing their incoming class up to a whopping 13 for next season. The spring additions will each be welcomed for what they will bring to the table, bolstering the four-time defending WAC champion squad.

Tragedy struck the program right from the start, and the reality of losing nearly 43 percent of their point scorers for various reasons at the WAC Championships awaited them at the end of the season. DENVER, Colo. – The Northern Arizona swimming & diving team placed 10 student-athletes on the 2017 Western Athletic Conference Winter All-Academic team as announced by the WAC on Thursday. Seniors Alexa Geiger and Sara Lenhoff highlighted NAU's honorees as they each received their fourth award in as many years.
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Sophomore Tanya Kurach's impressive debut season with the Northern Arizona swimming & diving team came to end on Thursday with a 49th place finish on 1-meter at the NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships. Kurach posted a six-round score of 218.40 in her first appearance at the Division I national championships.
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – On Thursday, sophomore Tanya Kurach will end a three-decade Northern Arizona University drought for Northern Arizona at the NCAA Division I Women’s Swimming & Diving Championships. Kurach will compete in the 1-meter springboard competition at the IU Natatorium on the IUPUI campus in downtown Indianapolis, Ind. with preliminaries set to start at 9:30 a.m. Arizona time.
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – With one big dive in the finals, sophomore Raquel Gonzales put herself in position to make it two Northern Arizona divers to propel themselves to Indianapolis. In the end though, Gonzales wound up on the outside looking in, which did nothing to spoil her platform performance on the final day of the NCAA Zone E Diving Championships in the Aquatic and Tennis Complex.
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Northern Arizona swimming & diving history was made on Tuesday, the second day of the NCAA Zone E Diving Championships, as sophomore Tanya Kurach qualified for the national championships on the 1-meter springboard. Kurach is just the second Lumberjack diver in program history to qualify for the NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships, and the first to do so on the 1-meter springboard.
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The Northern Arizona divers opened up the three-day NCAA Zone E Diving Championships Monday on the 3-meter springboard with mixed results. Senior Alexa Geiger was NAU’s top performer finishing in 19th overall with the regional championship meet set to continue on Tuesday at 11 a.m.
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Four Northern Arizona divers will take their shot at qualifying for the NCAA National Championships starting Monday at the NCAA Zone E Diving Championships in the Aquatic and Tennis Complex. Junior Alina Staffeldt clinched NAU’s fifth gold medal of the meet Friday night and the divers concluded another solid team performance at the CRWC Natatorium, helping the Lumberjacks to remain atop the standings.
HOUSTON, Texas. – Behind junior Kimmy Richter and senior Alexa Geiger’s gold medal performances on Thursday, the Northern Arizona swimming & diving team is halfway home to victory at the WAC Championships in the CRWC Natatorium in Houston. The Lumberjacks briefly lost their lead, but regained it by the end of the night as they doubled their advantage over Idaho with 284 points to the Vandals’ 242 heading into the third day of competition tomorrow.

The four-day meet will start on Wednesday and will conclude Saturday night in what could shape up to be a highly competitive meet at the top.
DENVER, Colo. – In her final opportunity of the season, sophomore Tanya Kurach finally achieved her elusive first WAC Diver of the Week award on Tuesday as announced by the conference office. Kurach became the fourth Northern Arizona diver to receive weekly honors from the WAC this season.
BOISE, Idaho and COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Northern Arizona swimming & diving team concluded their regular season on Saturday with split competitions and positive results. Although the swimmers dropped both of their dual meets, 163.5-84.5 to Boise State and 144-113 to Nevada, NAU picked up three overall event wins. Meanwhile, the divers once again placed a pair in the 3-meter finals on the last day of the Air Force Diving Invitational.
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Northern Arizona divers endured a long day of competition, but thrived on the first day of the Air Force Diving Invitational with sophomores Tanya Kurach and Raquel Gonzales garnering top three finishes. Kurach placed second in the 1-meter finals, while Gonzales wound up in third on the platform.

NORFOLK, Va. – The College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) once again recognized the Northern Arizona swimming & diving team's exceptional academic performance with a Scholar All-America Team distinction on Wednesday. The award is in recognition of teams that achieve a grade point average of 3.0 or better.
DENVER, Colo. – Senior Urte Kazakeviciute continued her exceptional run of late on Saturday with two victories and captured her second WAC Swimmer of the Week award in three weeks on Tuesday as a result. The honor is the Northern Arizona swimming & diving team's eighth athlete of the week nod this season.
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – In their final home meet of the season, the Northern Arizona swimming & diving team made quite a statement Saturday morning. The Lumberjacks won all 15 events and went one-two-three in 11 of them in easily dispatching WAC foe Northern Colorado, 170-91, in the Aquatic and Tennis Complex.

DENVER, Colo. – For the first time in her career, senior Urte Kazakeviciute was named the WAC Swimmer of the Week on Thursday for her dominating performance in Tucson last week. Kazakeiviciute is the second Northern Arizona swimmer to be honored by the conference office and fifth different Lumberjack overall to receive either a Swimmer or Diver of the Week award this season.
TUCSON, Ariz. – The trip down to Tucson was a highly successful one on Friday for the Northern Arizona swimming & diving team as they handed Oregon State a loss for the second straight year, 167-125. The Lumberjacks also more than held their own against Arizona, ranked No. 8 nationally, falling 178-118, in the double dual also featuring WAC rival New Mexico State.
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The New Year guarantees three things every year: excitement, optimism and a Northern Arizona swimming & diving trip to Tucson. For the 12th straight year, the Lumberjacks will make their annual trek south to square off against Arizona and Oregon State this Friday. The double dual, also featuring New Mexico State, will begin at 12 p.m. at UA's Hillenbrand Aquatic Center.
TEMPE, Ariz. – Senior Urte Kazakeviciute showed she was up to the challenge that Arizona State presented on Friday, winning the 100 breaststroke and finishing second in the 200 breast in Northern Arizona swimming & diving's 172-114 dual meet loss to its Pac-12 rival. The meet was NAU's last before the New Year.
COLUMBUS, Ohio – Senior Alexa Geiger and Northern Arizona alum Chelsea Jackson completed their run at the USA Diving Winter National Championships on Friday with a shining performance in the 3-meter synchronized springboard competition. The duo, in just their second synchro meet together, placed fourth overall in the finals.
