DENVER, Colo. – Sophomore Raquel Gonzales earned her first career WAC Diver of the Week award on Tuesday, and became the third Northern Arizona diver honored this fall, for her performance in the Lumberjack Diving Invitational this past weekend.

Gonzales, NAU's top platform diver, lived up to the billing on Friday by placing first overall in the event with a score of 224.15. Competing against divers from New Mexico State, Boise State, San Jose State, San Diego State and Nevada, she narrowly missed a qualifying score for the NCAA Zone E Diving Championships in the Lumberjacks' season debut on the tower.

Gonzales, out of Chandler, Ariz., also was the lone NAU diver to advance to the 3-meter springboard finals on Saturday. She placed seventh overall with a finals score of 257.95 after initially qualifying for the final with a preliminary score of 273.05.

She joins teammates senior Alexa Geiger and sophomore Christina Torrente as divers to receive the weekly award from the Western Athletic Conference office this season.
