DENVER, Colo. – Junior Alina Staffeldt got off to a fast start to her third collegiate season last Saturday, and on Tuesday she was named the first WAC Women's Swimmer of the Week of the season. The weekly honor from the conference office is Staffeldt's second career award.
Staffeldt posted one of three overall wins in Northern Arizona swimming & diving's first dual of the season, winning the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:03.11. She led the 200 fly race throughout its entirety and finished the final 50 seconds a full three seconds faster to put away Arizona's Mik Ranslem. The Hannover, Germany product then placed fourth overall in the 100 fly, clocking a time of 56.47. While Staffeldt finished fourth overall, she placed first in the head-to-head meet against Hawaii.
Staffeldt also swam on both of NAU's 'A' 200 medley and 400 freestyle relays that placed fourth overall in the meet.
Taking into account altitude conversations, Staffeldt owns the fastest 100 fly (56.32) and 200 fly (2:01.51) times in the Western Athletic Conference through the first week of the season.
