TUCSON, Ariz. - Soon to be sophomore Northern Arizona diver, Chelsea Jackson competed at the USA Diving Senior Zone Championships in Tucson over the weekend.
The meet was one of four USA Diving National Preliminaries that took place across the country. The top finalists in each event advanced USA Diving Senior National Championships.
In the 3-meter event there were 63 divers competing, with the top 12 making the finals. The top 5 individuals in the finals, then move on to Nationals. Jackson qualified in fifth place for the finals and ended up eighth, just missing the National team.
Sixty-six divers competed on the one-meter. Jackson finished 19th after prelims, but missed the finals by eight points.
"It was great to see Chelsea compete so well against some of the top divers in the west," said diving coach Nikki Huffman. "She has been working hard all summer and it showed in her performances. Chelsea is a native of Flagstaff and has only been diving for two years."
