MOSCOW, Idaho – The Northern Arizona swimming team competed in its first meet of the 2010-11 season participating in the Vandal Relays on Thursday. The Lumberjacks won all five events in the exhibition meet.
"It was great to see some action and have a tune-up like this for Friday and Saturday," said head coach Andy Johns of the exhibition event that leads into the start of the regular season with meets against Washington State and Idaho this weekend. "We had a long day of travel so it was great to see the team respond with such positive results."
The meet consisted of five relay events: a 200 freestyle relay, three by 100 relays of butterfly, backstroke, and breaststroke, and a 500 freestyle relay. The Lumberjacks placed first in all five events, an encouraging sign of things to come as the team readies for dual meets on Friday and Saturday.
"We appreciate the opportunity to swim in the Vandal Relays today," Johns said. "It definitely makes me feel better about what we have scheduled for the rest of the weekend."
The swimming team travels to Pullman, Wash., for a meet on Friday, Nov. 12 against Washington State then heads back to Idaho for its final dual meet this weekend on Saturday, Nov. 13.
