Swimmer Connell Reaches Championship at Australian Nationals
ADELAIDE, Australia – Northern Arizona junior swimmer Fi Connell recently competed at the Australian Short Course National Championship, advancing to the final round of the 100 meter backstroke and finishing eighth out of 60 competitors, including members of the Australian national team. Connell competed in both the 100 and 200 meter backstroke events, finishing eighth in the 100 back final and setting a personal record of 1:00.58 in the event in Adelaide, Australia.

Forty-Five Student-Athletes Earn Spring Academic Honors
OGDEN, Utah – Northern Arizona had 29 student-athletes earn 2011 Spring All-Academic honors from the Big Sky, the conference announced Friday. Additionally, the NAU women’s swimming and diving team earned 16 Western Athletic Conference (WAC) All-Academic selections. Spring sports eligible for Big Sky academic honors are women’s golf, men’s and women’s tennis, and men’s and women’s outdoor track and field.

ABOR Approves Three-Year Contracts for Six Lumberjack Head Coaches

SOMERS, Wis. – Northern Arizona swimmers Fi Connell and Emma Lowther were selected 2010-11 Division I Mid-Major All-Americans, CollegeSwimming.com announced on Monday. The Lumberjack swimmers earned All-American honors after NCAA 'B' qualifying time standards at the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Championships in February.

Swimming and Divings Connell Defends Title at 2010 Pentathlon
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. Sophomore swimmer Fi Connell finished with the highest point total for the second consecutive year at the 15th Annual Pentathlon at the Wall Aquatic Center on Friday. Connell finished 80 points ahead of freshman Rachel Palmer as the Lumberjacks completed the first of two intersquad competitions this fall.

Connell swam lifetime bests in every event with her top finish in the 200-meter backstroke competing amongst the best swimmers in Australia.

Swimming and Diving Volunteer Coach Hired as Assistant Coach
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. The Northern Arizona swimming and diving team promoted Jeana Fuccillo to a full-time assistant coach for the 2010-11 season. Fuccillo served as a team manager last season and also spent two years as an academic graduate assistant in the NAU athletic department.

Swimming and Divings Christensen Awarded Beckman Scholarship
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. Junior diver Lana Christensen was one of two Northern Arizona University students to be named a Beckman Scholar by the Arnold and Mabel Beckman Foundation for the 2010-11 academic year. The scholarship contributes to the advancement of undergraduate education, research training and personal development of select students in chemistry, biochemistry, and the biological and medical sciences.
