Swimmings Tami Binek Earns ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District Recognition
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Northern
Arizona’s Tami Binek was one of 32 Division I
student-athletes to earn ESPN the Magazine Academic
All-District honors in District 8 for the women’s at-large
category, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors
of America (CoSIDA). The category includes student-athletes from a
wide variety of sports, including swimming and diving, rowing,
lacrosse, field hockey, golf, gymnastics and tennis.
Binek, earning the honor for the first time in her career, was
named to the third team in District 8, which is comprised of
schools from California, Arizona, Utah, Oregon, Nevada, Hawaii and
Washington.
The award recognizes student-athletes who excel both academically
and athletically in their sport. Binek, a recently graduated
senior, has a cumulative grade-point-average of 3.54 as a
mechanical engineering major.
This February, Binek was a part of two school-record setting relays
at the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Championships, and earned
a silver medal as part of the 200 freestyle relay. She earned a
second All-WAC Award as part of the fourth-place and school-record
setting 400 freestyle relay.
Binek is a three-time Academic All-WAC honoree and a four-time
recipient of a Golden Eagle Scholar Athlete Award.
