Swim and Dive Earns Top 50 Academic Ranking for Second Straight Semester
PHOENIX, Ariz. – For the
second straight semester, the NAU swim and dive team’s
grade-point-average ranked it among the top 50 Division I teams as
compiled by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America
(CSCAA), which sponsors the awards and collects the data each
semester from college swim teams throughout the USA before
producing the official list.
The Lumberjacks ranked 46th for the spring semester with a team
GPA of 3.32, which was even higher than the GPA of 3.28 that had
them ranked 39th for the fall semester.
“We’re very proud of our student-athletes’
ability to balance their performances in the classroom and the
athletic arena,” said head coach Andy Johns. “Our team
GPA has stayed consistently around that mark for a long time and
we’re always very proud of that.”
NAU competes in the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) for swimming
and diving, and no other team in the WAC ranked higher than the
Lumberjacks in either semester.
Sixteen NAU swimmers and divers earned Academic All-WAC Awards
this year, more than any other team in the conference. Last year,
NAU had 20 recipients of the award.
The Lumberjacks concluded their season at the end of February with
their second-straight runner-up finish at the WAC Championships,
where they set 11 school records and earned 43 All-WAC Awards.
