OGDEN, Utah – For the second time in four years, and the fourth time in school history, the Northern Arizona University Athletics Department swept the Big Sky Men's and Women's All-Sports Trophies, announced by the conference office on Monday. The Lumberjacks won a total of seven Big Sky Conference championships during the 2016-17 academic year and also received strong performances from several other programs.
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Among the nearly 5,000 Northern Arizona University graduates this weekend will be 44 Lumberjack student-athletes, who will receive their diplomas during the commencement ceremonies Friday and Saturday in the Walkup Skydome. Along with the 17 fall semester graduates, NAU Athletics will graduate 61 total student-athletes this academic year.

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Northern Arizona football senior Patrick Baldenegro and women’s basketball senior Rene Coggins were honored as the Golden Eagle Scholar Athletes of the Year on Tuesday during the 39th annual Golden Eagle Awards luncheon. A total of 190 student-athletes across all 15 of NAU’s athletic programs were honored at the High Country Conference Center.

Originally from Johannesburg, South Africa, Louw comes to NAU with a wealth of knowledge and experience. INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Northern Arizona University’s NCAA Graduation Success Rate of 84 leads the Big Sky Conference, according to a national report released Tuesday. The NCAA developed the GSR for Division I institutions in 2002 in response to college and university presidents who wanted more accurate graduation data. NAU’s rate is the second-highest in the state of Arizona amongst the Regent institutions.
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The Northern Arizona University women’s soccer team was picked fifth in the Big Sky preseason polls – they finished third. The NAU women’s soccer team lost four of its first five games – they finished the season on an eight-game unbeaten streak. Few expected the NAU women’s soccer team to even qualify for the postseason – they made it to the championship round. A total of five Lumberjacks made the final ballot, with junior forward Adrian Nixt being named to the First Team. If Idaho wins today, they will gain sole possession of first place with Eastern Washington and Sacramento State in a tie for second. Regardless of the outcome of Weber State versus Portland State today, Northern Arizona and Montana are next in line in the standings with 15 points apiece.
MOSCOW, Idaho – Coming off a huge victory over Eastern Washington last week (Oct. 16), the Northern Arizona University women’s soccer team used this momentum to propel them into yet another tough match at league-leading University of Idaho this afternoon, Oct. 21. The Lumberjacks and Vandals ended in a 2-2 draw, as Idaho scored in the final five seconds of regulation, making it NAU’s sixth overtime match this season. The junior forward scored three goals in NAU’s unbeaten homecoming weekend finishing in a tie versus Montana and taking down the now second place Eastern Washington University Eagles.

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The Northern Arizona University women’s soccer team showed its resiliency yet again tonight, Oct. 14, versus the University of Montana in the first of two conference games this weekend. After being down 2-0 with less than five minutes to go in regulation, the Lumberjacks notched an incredible comeback scoring in the 86th and 89th minutes to send the game into overtime. By a final score of 2-2, Head Coach Andre Luciano and the Lumberjacks are now 5-7-3 overall and 2-2-2 in the Big Sky, while the Griz moves to 6-5-4 overall and 2-2-2 in the Big Sky.
