FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. - After helping the Northern Arizona women's soccer team make history this past weekend, goalkeeper Lauren Weaver has been named this week's Big Sky Player of the Week as well as the College Sports Madness Player of the Week.
The awards come after Weaver allowed only one goal in 200 minutes of play this weekend in California against CSU Bakersfield and UC Riverside. Weaver and the rest of the defense were stellar Friday night, shutting out CSU Bakersfield who they had lost to in last year's season finally in overtime, 3-2. Weaver recorded nine saves against UC Riverside, allowing one goal in 110 minutes of play. NAU was outshout 22-13 and still managed to get the tie, remaining undefeated.
In the four games played this season, Weaver has been in the net all 380 minutes, and has a stellar 0.71 goals against average. After the weekend, Weaver now moves into a tie for second place in NAU history for career shutouts with 13.
"Weaver was fantastic this weekend," said head coach Andre Luciano. "She is playing like a senior bringing leadership and steady every night and she is the reason why we will be in a lot of games this year."
Weaver and the rest of the Lumberjacks will get back on the field this Sunday, Sept. 8 at home against UNLV.
