FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. - Sophomore forward Haley Wingender has been named to the College Soccer 360 Honor Roll for week one of the soccer season. The Northern Arizona women's soccer team has started the season 2-0-0 for the first time since 2001, and Wingender had a major impact on both games. In the season opener against Long Beach State on the road, Wingender provided the game-winning assist to Malia Tano. Wingender help beat the 49ers, which were in the NCAA tournament last year on the road.
Then on Sunday, Aug. 25, Wingender help seal the game with a goal that gave NAU a 3-0 lead, which eventually won 3-2 against Lamar, who was picked to finish second in the Southland Conference. After ending her freshman season with five points (2 goals, 1 assist), Wingender already has three points after the first week of the season.
"It's a good honor for her and the team as well," head coach Andre Luciano said. "We want her to be a knockout punch and she did a great job in her new role."
Wingender is just one of two players to claim a spot on the College Soccer 360 team not from a non-BCS conference.
Wingender and the Lumberjacks look to extend their winning streak this week when they travel to California to face CSU Bakersfield on Friday, Aug. 30, and UC Riverside on Sunday, Sept. 1
