COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) has awarded four Lumberjacks with their annual All-American Strength and Conditioning Athlete of the Year awards.

47 Student-Athletes to Participate in Spring Commencement
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Forty-seven NAU student-athletes will receive their degrees from the university this Friday and Saturday as part of the spring 2013 commencement ceremonies. In addition to the 13 student-athletes who earned their degrees at the conclusion of the fall 2012 semester, the Lumberjack athletics department produced 60 total graduates during the 2012-13 academic year.

Soccer Promotes Positive Decisions at Williams Schools
WILLIAMS, Ariz. – The Northern Arizona soccer team traveled to Williams on Thursday to give two separate presentations for 250 students at Williams Middle School and Williams High School. The Lumberjack squad advocated against bullying and alcohol and drug abuse and promoted making positive choices in life to the students in an assembly setting.

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The Northern Arizona soccer team concludes its spring season this Saturday with a home game versus Embry-Riddle at 7 p.m. under the lights of Lumberjack Stadium. The game will be the last of the Lumberjacks' six-game spring tune-up before the upcoming fall season.

Monahan Advances Pro Career with Finland's FC Honka
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Sam Monahan left the Northern Arizona women's soccer program to begin her professional career in Finland as one of its most prolific players. Three minutes into her first professional game, she scored her first professional goal. Now one year later, after her first professional season in Finland's Division II ranks, Monahan is making the leap to Finland's top league and officially joining the FC Honka club on Monday.

Soccer Adds 15 Talented Freshman in 2013 Signing Class
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – NAU head soccer coach Andre Luciano is proud to announce his 2013 signing class which includes 15 incoming freshmen who will join the Northern Arizona soccer program in the fall. The 15 newcomers will join 17 returning letter winners from the 2012 team in the Lumberjacks' pursuit of a return to the Big Sky Championship.

National Girls and Women in Sports Day Event a Success
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The first National Girls and Women in Sports Day (NGWSD) event hosted by the Northern Arizona University athletics department was a hit with the Flagstaff community on Saturday, February 23. More than 50 local elementary and junior high school girls participated in the event held at the Rolle Activity Center on the NAU campus that culminated in their participation in a halftime ceremony at the women’s basketball game.

Big Sky Honors 41 NAU Student-Athletes as Fall All-Academic
OGDEN, Utah – The Northern Arizona football, volleyball, soccer and men's and women's cross country teams placed a total of 41 student-athletes on the fall 2012 Big Sky All-Academic Teams as recognized by the conference office. The 41 honorees were part of a department-strong 3.12 cumulative GPA posted by its more than 300 student-athletes during the fall semester.

Soccer Receives Tenth Straight NSCAA Academic Award
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – For the tenth year in a row, head coach Andre Luciano's Northern Arizona soccer team received the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Team Academic Award last week, continuing the program's strong tradition of outstanding work in the classroom. The Team Academic Award recognizes teams that post a team grade point average of 3.0 or higher. For the 2011-12 academic year, the Lumberjacks posted a strong 3.23 team GPA.

Priest, Buzzard Garner First Team Academic All-District Honors
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The Northern Arizona soccer team placed two members – junior Elinor Priest and sophomore Diane Buzzard – on the 2012 CoSIDA/Capital One Academic All-District Women’s Soccer First Team for District 8 as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America. Priest and Buzzard become the first two Lumberjacks to be named Academic All-District since Kristi Andreassen and Brandy Carr in 2010.

Foltz Headlines Four Lumberjacks on All-Big Sky Soccer Teams
OGDEN, Utah – Senior Georgia Foltz closed out her remarkable career at NAU with a All-Big Sky First Team selection as announced by the Big Sky Conference on Tuesday. She was one of four Lumberjacks honored on the All-Conference teams as voted on by the conference head coaches, with coaches not allowed to vote for their own players. Foltz's first team selection continues a string of 13 consecutive years in which the Lumberjacks have placed at least one player on the first team.

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The Northern Arizona soccer team fought back from a 2-0 deficit, but CSU Bakersfield played spoiler on a frigid Senior Night at Lumberjack Stadium, stunning the Lumberjacks, 3-2, in overtime. Friday night's match marked the final games in the careers of seniors Georgia Foltz, Laura Johnson and Jessica Kettelkamp, as the Lumberjacks concluded their 2012 season with a 5-9-5 record – a two-win improvement from a year ago.

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Three seniors, three different recruiting classes. They may not have come in together, but on Friday they will all end their NAU careers together as seniors Georgia Foltz, Laura Johnson and Jessica Kettelkamp will each play their final games as Lumberjacks when the Northern Arizona soccer team wraps up its season against CSU Bakersfield. FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The Northern Arizona soccer team surrendered an early Montana goal on Sunday and the score held as the Lumberjacks dropped their Big Sky Conference finale, 1-0, to the Grizzlies. NAU finished the conference season with an even 3-3-3 record and fell to 5-8-5 this season heading into its regular season finale this upcoming Friday versus CSU Bakersfield.

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The Northern Arizona soccer team will host Montana on Sunday at 11 a.m. for its final conference game of the season. The Lumberjacks are coming off their third consecutive 0-0 tie at home on Friday versus Eastern Washington. With the tie and other results within the conference on Friday, NAU (5-7-5 overall, 3-2-3 BSC) was eliminated from contention for the Big Sky Conference tournament, but can deny the Grizzlies from moving up in the standings.

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The Northern Arizona soccer team recorded its third straight home shutout Friday night, but it resulted in its third consecutive 0-0 double overtime at Lumberjack Stadium. Despite overwhelming Eastern Washington in the second half and the overtime periods, NAU could not break through and settled for the tie that pushed its record to 5-7-5 overall and 3-2-3 in Big Sky play heading into its final conference match of the season on Sunday.

GREELEY, Colo. – Two days after posting its season-high goal total, the Northern Arizona soccer team fell to Northern Colorado, 5-0, in its final road game of the regular season on Sunday at Jackson Stadium. The five goals were the most the Lumberjacks have given up this season as they fell to 5-7-4 and 3-2-2 in the conference heading into their final two Big Sky matches this upcoming weekend.

Soccer Explodes for 4-0 Shutout of North Dakota
GRAND FORKS, N.D. – Sophomore Emily Roth got the scoring underway just seconds before the end of the first half and consequently opened the floodgates for the Northern Arizona soccer team on Friday as the Lumberjacks picked up a 4-0 victory over North Dakota. The shutout was NAU's third consecutive and fifth in six conference matches and the four goals marked a season-high as the Lumberjacks improved to 5-6-4 overall and 3-1-2 in conference play.

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The Northern Arizona soccer team heads out for its final road trip of the regular season this weekend currently sitting two points out in a tie of the top-four qualifying teams for the Big Sky Conference tournament. With matches at North Dakota on Friday at 1 p.m. and Northern Colorado on Sunday at 11 a.m., the Lumberjacks hope to make up ground before returning home next weekend for their final two conference games.

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The Northern Arizona soccer team notched its fifth shutout in its last six games, but had to settle for its second consecutive 0-0 tie of the weekend on Sunday, playing Sacramento State to 110:00 minutes of scoreless action. The Lumberjacks will next head into their final road trip of the season this upcoming weekend with a 4-6-4 overall record and a 2-1-2 mark in the Big Sky.

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – A week after posting her third career 11-save game, junior Lauren Weaver eclipsed that mark, making a career-high 12 saves as the Northern Arizona soccer team battled Portland State to a 0-0 double overtime draw Friday night at Lumberjack Stadium. The scoreless affair pushed NAU's record to 4-6-3 overall and 2-1-1 in the Big Sky for a total of seven conference points.

POCATELLO, Idaho - The Northern Arizona soccer team jumped on the scoreboard first on Sunday, but allowed two Idaho State goals in a minute and a half span and dropped its first conference match of the season, 2-1 to the Bengals at Davis Field. The Lumberjacks' four-match unbeaten streak was snapped with the loss as NAU fell to 4-6-2 overall and 2-1 in Big Sky play.

OGDEN, Utah – Despite being outshot 24-8 on Friday, the Northern Arizona soccer team got a first half goal by freshman Cierra Gamble and received an outstanding performance by junior Lauren Weaver in goal to seal up a 1-0 victory over Weber State. The Lumberjacks improved to 2-0-0 in conference play and 4-5-2 overall, besting last season's overall win total in 11 games this season, with their third consecutive shutout.

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Freshman Demi Schmieder scored her first career goal in the 50th minute to snap a scoreless tie and sent the Northern Arizona soccer team to a critical 1-0 victory in its conference opener over Southern Utah in front of 897 fans at Lumberjack Stadium Friday night. The win was the Lumberjacks' second consecutive 1-0 shutout victory and third overall shutout this season.

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The Northern Arizona soccer team outshot its opponent for the second straight game, putting up a season-high 17 shots on Sunday, in its 1-0 shutout victory of San Jose State at Lumberjack Stadium in its final non-conference tune-up before opening the conference season this week. The Lumberjacks posted their second shutout of the season as they improved to 2-5-2 moving forward to Friday's conference opener against Southern Utah.

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Back home in their confines at Lumberjack Stadium, the Northern Arizona soccer team was the recipient of a special goal by sophomore Diane Buzzard in the first half of an eventual 1-1 double overtime draw with Florida Gulf Coast. The game was the nightcap of two games on day one of the Hilton Garden Inn High Altitude Tournament Friday night.

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – With the Big Sky season just a week away, the Northern Arizona soccer team returns home for its final non-conference tune-ups this weekend as it will host the Hilton Garden Inn High Altitude Tournament Friday and Sunday at Lumberjack Stadium. The Lumberjacks will play Florida Gulf Coast and San Jose State on Friday and Sunday respectively, while UNLV will be the fourth team in the tournament playing in the first games on each day.

DAVIS, Calif. – The Northern Arizona soccer team gave up two first half goals to UC Davis and the Lumberjacks were outshot by a 29-7 margin as they dropped a 3-0 decision to the Aggies on Sunday. NAU fell to 1-5-1 this season as they return home for three straight home matches beginning this Friday against Florida Gulf Coast.

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – The Northern Arizona soccer team responded quickly after ceding a goal to San Francisco and then battled the rest of the way through to a 1-1 tie with the Dons Friday night at Negoesco Stadium. Freshman Haley Wingender put in her second goal of the season a mere 21 seconds after the home team struck first, putting the Lumberjacks in position to earn the tie and move to 1-4-1 in their first of two games this weekend in northern California.

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The Northern Arizona soccer team snapped its three-match scoreless streak to open the season last weekend and earned a split at the UNLV Rebel Classic. After defeating Florida Atlantic for their first victory of the season and a hard-fought loss to Oklahoma, the Lumberjacks (1-4) head to northern California for a pair of games this weekend at San Francisco on Friday and at UC Davis on Sunday.

LAS VEGAS, Nev. – The Northern Arizona soccer team struck first for a 1-0 lead early in the game, but surrendered three unanswered goals, two in the second half, and fell to Oklahoma, 3-1, on Sunday at Peter Johann Memorial Field. The Lumberjacks finished the UNLV Rebel Classic with a split and carry a 1-4 record into next weekend's games in the Bay Area.

The Lumberjacks improved their record to 1-3 with their opening victory of the UNLV Rebel Classic.

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The Northern Arizona soccer team dropped its third consecutive game to begin the 2012 season on Sunday, falling 3-0 to Arizona in a physical contest at Lumberjack Stadium. The teams combined for 26 fouls and four yellow cards were assessed in Sunday's match as the Lumberjacks fell to 0-3 in the young season.

A record nine games will air live on FOX Sports Arizona or FOX Sports Arizona Plus, including three football games airing live on basic cable throughout the state of Arizona for the first time. OGDEN, Utah – Following a fifth-place finish on the bubble just outside of qualifying for the conference tournament, the Northern Arizona soccer team was voted in a tie for fifth in the Big Sky Conference preseason poll released today by the conference. The Lumberjacks received 50 points, including one first place vote, to sit in a tie with Sacramento State, who also received 50 points in the poll conducted by the league’s head coaches.

Soccer to Host ASU, UA as Part of 19-Game 2012 Schedule
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – For the first time in school history, the Northern Arizona soccer team will host their fellow in-state rivals Arizona State and Arizona in the same season, highlighting a 19-game slate for head coach Andre Luciano's squad in 2012. Both the Sun Devils and the Wildcats will visit Lumberjack Stadium on Aug. 24 and 26, providing NAU fans with the opportunity to see the Lumberjacks host the Pac-12 foes as part of Welcome Weekend to open the Fall 2012 semester.

Soccer's Wingender Named Nevada Gatorade Player of the Year
LAS VEGAS, Nev. – On Wednesday, incoming freshman Haley Wingender was named the Nevada Gatorade Girls Soccer Player of the Year after wrapping up a sensational senior year at Bishop Gorman High School, leading her team to a 17-3-2 record and the Class 4A state championship. The award was based on three pillars including athletic production and impact on the field, high academic achievement in the classroom and exhibiting exemplary personal character.
