FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The defending Big Sky Conference regular season champion Northern Arizona University soccer program will play a difficult schedule that includes eight home games in the newly renovated Lumberjack Stadium in 2011, Head Coach Andre Luciano announced.
"It is a huge milestone to play at the new Health and Learning Center and Lumberjack Stadium," said Head Coach Andre Luciano, who is entering his 11th season. "It is one of the top facilities in the country and one of the best on the west coast."
The Lumberjacks will open play against two regional rivals starting with Arizona State in Tempe on Aug. 19. NAU will play at Southern Utah on Aug. 21 two days later.
"We want to play the best and Arizona State competes in the Pac 12, one of the best conferences in the country," said Luciano. "We are excited to test ourselves right off the bat against a quality opponent."
The NAU Mountain Classic will open Lumberjack Stadium Aug. 26-28 with Southern Utah, Northern Iowa and Drake traveling to Flagstaff for the four-game set. NAU will play host to Drake at 7 p.m. on Aug. 26 and Northern Iowa at 1 p.m. on Aug. 28.
"I believe that our first opening home weekend will be an awesome experience for any fan that has been at the old stadium to be able to compare the amenities we have now," said Luciano. "I am excited for the first set of conference games and about playing Friday night games under the lights."
Luciano will take his team to the Midwest for a weekend to play Big 12 schools Missouri (Sept. 2) and Nebraska (Sept. 4). The Lumberjacks will host the NAU High Altitude Tournament Sept. 9-11 including Lamar, Evansville and Ball State. NAU will then travel to Texas for the final tune-up before Big Sky play with games at TCU and Texas Tech.
The Lumberjacks open Big Sky play on the road at Northern Colorado on Oct. 1 and play at the Air Force Academy on Oct. 3 before returning home for the remainder of the conference slate.
NAU will host Idaho State (Oct. 7), Weber State (Oct. 9) and Eastern Washington (Oct. 23) at home in Big Sky play, while traveling to Sacramento State, Portland State and Montana for three key games over an eight-day stretch from Oct. 14-21.
NAU Athletics will hold a "Pick Your Seat Event" on Aug. 5 at 6 p.m. at the stadium during a team scrimmage. Season tickets are $70 for adults and $50 for children (12 and under) with prices guaranteed for the next four seasons upon renewal. This program is aligned with the overall University's tuition pledge program that guarantees the same tuition over four years. Call the NAU athletic department at 928-523-5353 to secure your 2011 tickets.
Individual tickets will be available at the Central Ticket Office at 928-523-5661 starting Wednesday, August 10.
