Forty-Eight Student-Athletes to Participate in Graduation Ceremonies
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Forty-eight Northern Arizona University student-athletes are participating in spring commencement ceremonies on the NAU campus this weekend and will be commissioned degrees as part of the Class of 2012. It is the second largest graduating class in athletics department history, trailing only the 55 graduates from last spring.

Monahan Signs Contract with EIF to Play Professionally in Finland
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – For the second year in a row, the Northern Arizona soccer program is sending one of its own to Europe to continue their soccer careers in the professional ranks. Last week, senior Sam Monahan signed a contract to play for Ekenäs Idrottsförening (EIF), a Division II club in Finland, and will leave this week to join the club in preparation for the team’s first game on May 6.

Soccer Hosts Arizona in Televised Spring Finale on Saturday
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The Northern Arizona soccer team hosts the University of Arizona on Saturday in their spring season finale in front of a televised audience at Lumberjack Stadium. The game will be broadcast live on Fox Sports Arizona starting at 11:30 a.m. in what will be the Lumberjacks' fourth and final game of their spring schedule. Admission is free for all fans.

Four Student-Athletes Earn NSCA All-America Honors
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. - Four Northern Arizona University student-athletes have been recognized as All-Americans through the National Strength and Conditioning Association, an organization that honors student athletes dedicated to strength training and conditioning. The NSCA selected Brian Riley and Benjamin Bachelier of the NAU football team as well as Ethi Ethridge and Chelsea Bednarz of the women’s soccer team.

Five Student-Athletes Awarded Gold Axe, Distinguished Seniors Honors
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Three Northern Arizona student athletes were a part of 45 graduating seniors that were recognized Tuesday night at the High Country Conference Center as recipients of the university’s prestigious Gold Axe Award for the Spring 2012 semester. In addition to the three Gold Axe recipients, two additional student-athletes were honored as the Distinguished Seniors for their respective colleges as part of the ceremony.

Soccer Spring Opener on Sunday Moved to Flagstaff High School
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The Northern Arizona women's soccer team's spring opener on Sunday against Embry-Riddle will now be played at Flagstaff High School instead of the originally scheduled Lumberjack Stadium. The start time still remains at 2 p.m. Admission for the game is free and is open to all fans.

Soccer To Play Five-Game Spring Schedule, Four at Lumberjack Stadium
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The Northern Arizona soccer team will play a five-game spring schedule, four of which will be held at Lumberjack Stadium, beginning this Sunday against Embry-Riddle at 2 p.m. in preparation for the upcoming fall season. The Lumberjacks are coming off a 3-9-7 season last fall, finishing one spot out of qualifying for the Big Sky conference tournament for the fourth straight season.

NAU Places 49 Student-Athletes on Fall Big Sky All-Academic Teams
OGDEN, Utah – The Northern Arizona football, volleyball, soccer and men’s and women’s cross country teams placed a total of 49 student-athletes on the fall 2011 Big Sky All-Academic Teams. The 49 honorees were part of the school-record 3.12 cumulative GPA among all of NAU’s student-athletes during the fall semester.

Women's Soccer Looks for Offense, Adds Ten Freshmen in 2012 Class
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – On Wednesday, 10 outstanding recruits, including the first player from in-town Coconino High School since 2004, signed their National letters of intent and officially joined the Northern Arizona soccer program as part of National Signing Day. After missing out on the Big Sky conference tournament for the first time in four years, the Lumberjacks will lose nine graduating seniors, of whom these 10 additions will help replace.

Soccer's Monahan Participating in WPS Tryout in Hope of Pro Career
DOWNINGTOWN, Pa. – After recently wrapping up a stellar career for the Northern Arizona soccer team, senior Sam Monahan takes her first step towards a potential professional soccer career beginning today. Monahan will take part in a two-day tryout with the Philadelphia Independence of Women's Professional Soccer (WPS) on Thursday and Friday at the United Sports Training Center, the official training facility of the Independence.

Samora, Monahan Lead Five Lumberjacks on All-Big Sky Teams
OGDEN, Utah – Seniors Jenna Samora and Sam Monahan highlighted five Lumberjacks on the Big Sky Soccer All-Conference teams as voted on by the conference head coaches on Monday. Samora and Monahan both were named to the All-Big Sky first team for the second time in their careers, becoming the ninth and 10th players in program history with multiple first team selections. For both players, the first team honors makes four All-Conference selections in their NAU careers.

Seniors Shine in Soccer's 3-0 Shutout of Eastern Washington
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Prior to Sunday's match, the Northern Arizona soccer team honored its nine graduating seniors as part of the Senior Day celebration. Then the Lumberjacks hit the field and the seniors imposed their will on Eastern Washington. Seniors Sam Monahan, Jenna Samora and Noel Guevara each scored a goal, the second time this season that the three players all scored in the same game, and the Lumberjacks concluded their season with a 3-0 win over the Eagles.

Soccer Hosts Eastern Washington for Senior Day
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – On Sunday, the Northern Arizona soccer team will honor its nine graduating seniors prior to its regular season finale against Eastern Washington as part of Senior Day at 12 p.m at Lumberjack Stadium. The nine graduating seniors have combined to play a total of 408 games with 230 starts over the last four years, while amassing 52 goals and 40 assists for 144 points.

MISSOULA, Mont. – The Northern Arizona soccer team battled Montana all game long, but they were downed by a Grizzly goal in the 86th minute, to fall 1-0 Friday afternoon in Missoula. The loss dropped the Lumberjacks record to 2-9-7 on the season and 1-2-4 in the conference.

Women's Soccer Heads to Montana With Top-Four in Sight
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The 2011 regular season comes to a close this weekend for the Northern Arizona soccer team, but the Lumberjacks are aiming to extend their season by clinching a spot in the Big Sky Conference Tournament. The Lumberjacks enter the final weekend of the regular season beginning Friday with a road match against Montana in Missoula, Mont. at 2 p.m. in the sixth spot of the conference standings.

Weaver Garners Second Conference Player of the Week Selection
OGDEN, Utah – Sophomore goalkeeper Lauren Weaver garnered her second conference player of the week selection of the season on Monday as she was named the Big Sky Conference Co-Defensive Player of the Week, sharing the honor with Eastern Washington's goalkeeper Jamie Walker. Weaver's player of the week selection is the third of the season for the Northern Arizona soccer team and second consecutive after senior Sam Monahan earned offensive honors last week.

Soccer Fights Back to Tie Portland State, 1-1
HILLSBORO, Ore. – After allowing a Portland State goal 54 seconds into the game, the Northern Arizona soccer team battled back and held on for a 1-1 tie with the Vikings on Sunday, in large part to the play of sophomore Lauren Weaver. Weaver equaled her career-high of 11 saves to preserve the tie despite the Vikings' overwhelming 23-4 shot advantage over the Lumberjacks.

Soccer Draws 1-1 with Sacramento State in Eighth OT Game of Season
SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Senior Jenna Samora's third goal of the season in the 25th minute gave the Northern Arizona soccer team a 1-0 lead, but it was short-lived, as Sacramento State responded with a goal a minute later. In the end, the Lumberjacks played their eighth overtime match of the season Friday night, and came away with a 1-1 draw with the Hornets. The tie was the team's sixth this season, and improved their conference record to 1-1-2.

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Coming off an unbeaten weekend at home last weekend, the Northern Arizona soccer team heads back out on the road with matches at Sacramento State Friday at 4 p.m. and at Portland State Sunday at 1 p.m. The Lumberjacks currently sit in a tie for sixth place in the Big Sky with a 1-1-1 Big Sky record, just outside the top four. FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Down 1-0 late in the second half, senior Sam Monahan scored her second goal of the weekend and sixth of the season to tie the game, giving the Northern Arizona soccer team a 1-1 draw against Weber State, Sunday afternoon at Lumberjack Stadium. Monahan's goal in the 76th minute moved the Lumberjacks' record to 2-8-5 and 1-1-1 in the Big Sky.

USAF ACADEMY, Colo. – The Northern Arizona soccer team pressured the Air Force Academy backline all game, outshooting the Falcons by a 14-9 margin, but were unable to put one in the net. As a result, the Lumberjacks improved its record to 1-8-4 overall with a 0-0 double overtime draw against the Falcons in its final non-conference match of the season, Sunday morning at Cadet Soccer Stadium.

FORT WORTH, Texas – During their stay in Fort Worth last weekend for their game against TCU, the Northern Arizona soccer team had a once in a lifetime opportunity to meet with former Dallas Cowboy and San Francisco 49er defensive end Charles Haley. The meeting was organized through head coach Andre Luciano, whose friend coaches Haley’s daughter’s youth soccer team, which also includes former Cowboy greats Troy Aikman and Emmitt Smith’s daughters.

LUBBOCK, Texas – Although the Northern Arizona soccer team was outshot by only a 13-5 margin, they fell 5-0 to Texas Tech, Sunday Morning at the John Walker Soccer Complex. The loss snapped the Lumberjacks’ four-game unbeaten streak. NAU allowed three first half goals, including two in less than a minute between the 19th and 20th minutes, to fall to 1-7-3 on the season.

NAU attempted 28 shots, 11 on goal, to the Purple Aces’ four shots, including 18-2 in the second half and overtime periods.

Weaver Makes Career-High 11 Saves in 2-2 Tie to Ball State
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Sophomore Lauren Weaver made a career-high 11 saves in relief to help the Northern Arizona soccer team leave Lumberjack Stadium Friday night with a 2-2 tie against Ball State. The Cardinals outshot the Lumberjacks 22-13 and held a narrow advantage in corner kicks, 5-4, but was unable to come away with the victory despite leading twice during the match.

The Lumberjacks welcome in Ball State, Evansville and Lamar for the tournament starting on Friday. NAU will host Ball State at 7 p.m. on Friday and resume play on Sunday at 10 a.m. against Evansville.

Johnson Scores First Career Goal in 8-1 Loss to Nebraska
LINCOLN, Neb. – The Northern Arizona soccer team was able to withstand a flurry of Nebraska shots in the first half, but was unable to do the same following halftime, allowing six second half goals in an 8-1 loss to the Cornhuskers Sunday morning at Nebraska Soccer Field. The eight total goals allowed were the most goals given up by the Lumberjacks in school history. NAU dropped to 0-6-0 on the season.

Women's Soccer Loses Late Lead, Falls to UNI 3-2 in OT
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The Northern Arizona soccer team outshot its opponent for the second straight game, but still dropped their fourth consecutive match of the season, a 3-2 overtime decision to Northern Iowa Sunday afternoon at Lumberjack Stadium. It was also the second straight game that the Lumberjacks took a one-goal lead into the final ten minutes of regulation, only to surrender the game-tying goal.

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The Northern Arizona soccer team made its 2011 home debut in front of a crowd of 723, but fell short of their first win of the season. With the game tied at 1-1 three minutes into the second overtime, freshman Jordan Bergeson deflected the ball into her own goal, giving Drake (2-1-0) a 2-1 win Friday night over the Lumberjacks (0-3-0).

New Lumberjack Stadium Set to Open Friday
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Since 1997, Lumberjack Stadium has been the home of Northern Arizona soccer. From the Lumberjacks’ first game at the facility in October 1997, a 7-6 NAU victory over Cal State Northridge which still holds school records for most shots in a game and most goals between two teams, to its most recent last November, a 1-0 defeat to Sacramento State in the Big Sky Championship, Lumberjack fans have witnessed it all.

TEMPE, Ariz. – Despite only allowing one goal in the first half, the Northern Arizona soccer team dropped a 7-0 decision to Arizona State in both teams’ season opener Friday night at Sun Devil Soccer Stadium. The Sun Devils put up 28 shots compared to one from the Lumberjacks, who were held without a shot in the second half and did not place a shot on goal.

Soccer Picked As Narrow Preseason Favorite
OGDEN, Utah – By the narrowest of margins, the Northern Arizona soccer team has been picked first by the conference coaches in the 2011 preseason poll. NAU collected 43 points, one point more than Sacramento State’s 42 points, to slightly top the Hornets as the pre-season favorite to claim the conference title. Both the Lumberjacks and the Hornets received three first place votes in the poll. Coaches were not allowed to vote for their own teams.

Soccer Season Tickets Available at “Pick Your Seat” Event Friday
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. - The Northern Arizona University Athletics department will hold a "Pick Your Seat Event" on Aug. 5 at 6 p.m. at Lumberjack Stadium during a soccer team practice. The team will practice from 5-7 p.m. on the field.

Women’s Soccer to Hold World Cup Final Viewing Party at Taverna
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The Northern Arizona women’s soccer team and Taverna Greek Grill will host a viewing party for the Women’s World Cup Championship game between the United States and Japan on Sunday. Fans can join the NAU women’s soccer coaches and players as well as other members of the Northern Arizona athletic department in watching the Americans play for their third Women’s World Cup title. Doors will open at 11 a.m. with kickoff slated for just after 11:30.

Soccer Coach Luciano to Be Inducted into NJCAA Soccer Hall of Fame
PRESCOTT, Ariz. – Northern Arizona head women’s soccer coach Andre Luciano will be inducted into the NJCAA Soccer Hall of Fame in November at the NJCAA Division One Soccer Banquet in Phoenix, Ariz. He joins an elite group of 59 other coaches, contributors and players already named to the NJCAA Soccer Hall of Fame that now includes 15 representatives from Yavapai, the most representing any school.

ABOR Approves Three-Year Contracts for Six Lumberjack Head Coaches
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The Arizona Board of Regents approved multi-year contracts for six Northern Arizona University head coaches at the meeting held in Flagstaff on Thursday. The coaches were previously on one-year contracts.
