Lumberjacks to Hold Open Scrimmage Saturday Night

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The defending Big Sky Champion Lumberjacks will conduct an open scrimmage Saturday, AUgust 8 at 7:30 pm at the South Fields on the NAU campus. Admission and parking are free for all fans as Northern Arizona begins its quest for a return trip to the NCAA women’s soccer tournament.

The Lumberjacks return all but one starter from last year’s Big Sky Championship team in 2009. Last fall, NAU beat Weber State, 2-1, in the Big Sky championship game to advance to face Portland in the NCAA tournament. Senior Sarah Neatherton and juniors Kristi Andreassen and Brenna Boies look to lead the veteran squad while Jenna Samora, who tallied seven goals and two assists en route to Big Sky Freshman of the Year honors in 2008, returns for her sophomore season. Northern Arizona will open its regular season on August 21 at Utah State and hosts Arizona on August 28 in its home opener.

The South Fields are located on Pine Knoll Drive on the southern tip of the Northern Arizona campus.
