CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. – Senior Savana Bezdicek and freshman Sofya Anokhina were acknowledged for their work in the classroom Tuesday morning, as both earned all-American scholar accolades from the Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA).
The requirements for such an award are demanding to say the least, as each golfer must uphold a minimum 3.50 grade point average (GPA) throughout the academic year. Bezdicek graduated with a 3.72 GPA as a mechanical engineering major with a biology minor this past spring, while Anokhina completed her first year as a college student with a 3.59 GPA.
Bezdicek closed out her final season as a Lumberjack logging 17 rounds of golf with a 79.82 scoring average. She registered a season-best score of 2-under-par 70 during second round action at the Rio Verde Invitational in February, which was the second-best round score all year for NAU.
Anokhina had a stellar season to begin her collegiate career, turning in the team's best round scoring average at a 75.43 clip, which was also the third-best average scoring mark in school history. The Moscow, Russia, native concluded her freshman campaign with a tie for 13th-place and second-team all-conference honors at Big Sky Conference Championships in April.
