FLAGSTAFF, Ariz.- Northern Arizona University's women's golf team opens up it's spring season today at the Grand Canyon Invitational. The two-day tournament is hosted by Grand Canyon University.
The Lumberjacks finished the fall season in impressive fashion as they posted season-best scores at the Rainbow Wahine Invitational in Hawaii. NAU scored a season-best 297 as a team on the final day of play. The Lumberjacks were led by senior Kaitlen Parsons who posted her best scores of the season throughout the tournament. Parsons put together rounds of 73, 72 and 74 which were good for an individual second place finish. For her strong play, Parsons was named Big Sky Golfer of the Week, the third of her career.
"The first semester was frustrating from a coaching standpoint because we didn't play to our potential," said head coach Brad Bedortha. "Kaitlen finished the fall season strong and I am confident she will continue to lead the team."
The tournament will also serve as a debut for transfer sophomore Jacquie LeMarr. LeMarr is expected to be an immediate major contributor.
"I am really excited about what Jacquie can bring to our team this season," said Bedortha. "She should be one of our top players."
Sophomore Savana Bezidicek will also be key for NAU this season. Bezdicek was the 2013 Big Sky Freshman of the Year but faced some struggles in the fall as well. Getting her back on track along with newcomer Brittany McKeewill be pertinent for the group's success.
