Golfer Stephanie Kim Named Big Sky Player of the Week
OGDEN, Utah - Northern
Arizona’s Stephanie Kim, a Phoenix Desert Vista product, has
been named the Big Sky Conference Golfer of the Week after claiming
medalist honors at the Grand Canyon Women’s Fall Invitational
in Avondale, Ariz.
Kim, a true freshman from Phoenix, posted a one-under-par 71 in
Monday’s first round and followed with the same score on
Tuesday at the Coldwater Golf Course to finish with a two-under-par
142 for a one-shot victory.
Kim is the ninth player in school history to win a tournament title
and first freshman to capture a crown since Sophia Choi won the Big
Sky Championship in 2005. It was the 19th individual tournament
title won by a Lumberjack.
Kim led Northern Arizona to a 14-stroke victory over California
Baptist. Northern Arizona carded a school-record round 285 (-3) in
Monday’s first round. NAU followed with a 295 to finish with
a 36-hole school record 580.
Northern Arizona, which captured the Big Sky Championship last
spring, has won three consecutive tournaments this fall.
NAU’s Alexa Kim – no relation to Stephanie – tied
for second with a 143. Kim shot a four-under-par 69 in the first
round. Northern Arizona’s Dakin Banta, who was playing as
individual and didn’t count toward the team score, also shot
a two-day total of 143. NAU was the only Big Sky team to play this
week.
