FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Senior Rene Coggins was voted to the CoSIDA Academic All-District 8 First Team for the second consecutive season on Thursday. She will now advance to the Academic All-America team ballot where All-America honorees will be selected later this month.
Coggins was a Third Team Academic All-American last season, and has continued her perfect performance in the classroom heading into her final months towards completing her undergraduate degree. She has carried a spotless 4.00 grade point advance throughout her three-plus years in the university's Honors College as a triple major in accounting, finance and hotel & restaurant management.
A three-time Big Sky All-Academic selection and Golden Eagle Scholar-Athlete Award recipient, Coggins was also a nominee for the Senior CLASS Award – the NCAA's premier award for senior student-athletes – this year.
In addition to closing out her academic career, Coggins is currently wrapping up her final season on the court. The point guard is the Lumberjacks' second-leading scorer at 11.2 points per game and ranks eighth in the conference in three-point percentage (.380).
The Mesa, Ariz. product has steadily progressed through NAU's career charts all season. She currently ranks fourth in school history in three-pointers (152) and will move into third in career minutes during Thursday night's contest at Montana State. Coggins is also just 47 points shy of joining NAU's 1,000 point club and needs only 11 assists to move into the program's top 10.
If she were to be selected to the CoSIDA Academic All-America teams later this month, she would become the program's first ever two-time honoree and join just eight previous Lumberjack student-athletes to do so.
