Tomorrow we are looking to bounce back from two frustrating losses over the weekend. We are back in the Skydome for a noon tip-off against Portland State as we also play host to nearly 1000 local schoolchildren in our 1st Annual Field Trip Day. The schoolchildren are in for a day of fun and education, and we are looking forward to an exciting game in front of a boisterous gang. The game will be broadcast live on Fox Sports Arizona and Fox Sports Pacific.
LEARNING BY TEACHING
One of the best ways to learn a skill or approach is to teach it. The NAU athletic department sponsored a clinic for 60 young girls and boys last Saturday in conjunction with National Girls and Women in Sports Day. NAU student-athletes, coaches and staff members shared knowledge of and passion for sports through lectures and station-work.
Our players were outstanding teachers. They were enthusiastic, engaging, patient and found that teaching can be very different from doing. The event gave our student-athletes a whole new appreciation for their own abilities and talents, while giving area youth an afternoon of fun and some inspiring role models.
OUR WEEK IN PHOTOS
Our lone senior, Amanda Frost (Riverside, CA) shares her thoughts on last Saturday’s clinic: "Knowing that these kids look up to you and want to be just like you motivates you to teach them and be the best you can be. I love working with kids."
Our goals for the 2013-2014 season:
Win the Big Sky Championship,
Maintain a team GPA of 3.0 or higher,
Perform 150 hours of community service.
Freshman Catelyn Preston (Oregon City, OR) keeps tabs on important dates and numbers for our program. Drumroll please . . .
