  • NAU Athletics Wins Back-to-Back Big Sky Presidents’ Cup

    OGDEN, Utah – For the second straight year, Northern Arizona Athletics has captured the Big Sky Presidents’ Cup presented by Red Lion Hotels. NAU finished first in overall in athletic points for the second consecutive year, in addition to claiming the Big Sky Men’s and Women’s All-Sports Trophies in May.

  • NAU Captures Men’s and Women’s Big Sky All-Sports Trophy

    OGDEN, Utah – Northern Arizona has captured both the men’s and women’s Big Sky All-Sports Trophies, the conference office announced Monday. The Lumberjacks went into the outdoor track championship with the lead, and a sweep by the men’s and women’s teams this past weekend secured NAU the win on both sides. The sweep is the first true sweep by any school since 2000-01.

  • Women’s Tennis and Swimming & Diving Rank in Top 10 Percent

    INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Northern Arizona women’s tennis and swimming & diving were both honored by the NCAA for earning Public Recognition Awards, based on their most recent multi-year Academic Progress Rate. These awards are given each year to teams with APRs in the top 10 percent in each sport. This is the second straight year women’s tennis has received the honor.
  • Forty-Three Student-Athletes to Receive Degrees This Weekend

    FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Forty-three Northern Arizona student-athletes will receive their degrees from the university this weekend as part of the Spring 2014 commencement ceremonies. When adding in the 15 student-athletes who participated in the Fall 2013 commencement ceremonies, the NAU Athletics Department produced a total of 58 graduates for the 2013-14 academic year.
  • Women's Hoops Brings in Another Experienced Transfer

    FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Adding experience to their 2014-15 roster was a goal for the Northern Arizona women's basketball team and they took another step in that direction on Tuesday with the addition of Monique Mulder, a transfer from New Mexico Junior College. Mulder, a 5-foot-3 point guard, will be a junior this upcoming season after two years at NMJC.

It was a night of celebration, honoring and recognizing all of the Lumberjack student-athletes for their success in the classroom, in competition and in the community.

  • Lumberjacks Receive NLIs from Mesa CC Duo for 2014-15

    FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The Northern Arizona women's basketball team is injecting huge drops of national championship pedigree for the 2014-15 season with the additions of Madi Austin and Mariah Willadsen on Wednesday. Austin and Willadsen were two of the top-three scorers on the Mesa Community College squad that claimed the NJCAA Division II National Championship last month following a 28-5 season, a school record for victories. Both players will be juniors in the fall.

    FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The Northern Arizona University Athletics Department held its 36th annual Golden Eagle Awards Tuesday at the High Country Conference Center to recognize its student-athletes for their stellar work in the classroom. Golden Eagle Distributors, Inc., honored 199 Lumberjack student-athletes for their scholastic and athletic accomplishments. The award recognizes student-athletes who maintain at least a 3.0 grade point average.

    NASHVILLE, Tenn. – In her first step towards pursuing a post-collegiate basketball career, Amanda Frost seized her opportunity and took full advantage of it at the Nashville Women's International Showcase last weekend. Over the two-day combine, Frost ascended to the cream of the crop and displayed her abilities in front of professional basketball evaluators from both in the states and overseas.

    FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Amanda Frost, the school’s single-season scoring record holder, will take her talents to Nashville, Tenn. this weekend in pursuit of her potential professional career on the hardwood. Frost will showcase her abilities at the 2014 Nashville Women’s International Showcase during the NCAA Women’s Final Four this Saturday and Sunday in front of scouts from both the WNBA and overseas in addition to FIBA agents, clubs and general managers.

    FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Second-year head coach Sue Darling had a tall task ahead of her heading into the 2013-14 season. The Northern Arizona women's basketball team returned just three players from their squad a year ago and they were picked to finish 10th out of 11 teams in the preseason Big Sky poll. Although the Lumberjacks finished shy of their goal of reaching the Big Sky Championships, this season proved to be another step in the right direction under Darling's tutelage.

The website's Big Sky All-Conference honors come two days after the three Lumberjacks were rewarded by the Big Sky Conference office for their play this season.

    OGDEN, Utah – The Northern Arizona women's basketball team collected three honors on Monday with the announcement of the Big Sky Women's Basketball All-Conference teams and individual award winners as voted on by the league's head coaches. Senior Amanda Frost was voted as a member of the All-Big Sky First Team while junior Erikka Banks was named Honorable Mention. Freshman Brittani Lusain earned the conference's Outstanding Freshman award.

    MISSOULA, Mont. – Senior Amanda Frost and freshman Brittani Lusain each scored 25 points and junior Raven Anderson ripped down a career-high 18 rebounds, but the Northern Arizona women's basketball team could not overcome a halftime deficit in an 83-66 season finale loss to Montana Saturday afternoon. The Lumberjacks finish the season 9-20 overall, a one-game improvement from last season, and 6-14 within the Big Sky Conference.

    BOZEMAN, Mont. – The Northern Arizona women’s basketball team shot 55 percent from the field in the second half and 49 percent for the game, but the Lumberjacks fell victim to a Montana State that was firing on all cylinders in a 99-85 decision. With the loss, the Lumberjacks were eliminated from contention for a Big Sky Championship berth and will wrap up their season on Saturday at Montana. NAU falls to 9-19 overall, 6-13 in conference play with one game to play.

    FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. - The Northern Arizona women’s basketball team hits the road for the final time this season, heading to the state of Montana needing a sweep and some help to get into the position for the final spot in the Big Sky Championships. The Lumberjacks will play at Montana State on Thursday and at Montana on Saturday in the final week of the regular season, currently two wins outside the top-seven qualifying teams.

    FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The Northern Arizona women's basketball team (9-18, 6-12 Big Sky) led by as much as 13 with 5:02 left in the game, but Weber State spoiled Senior Day for the Lumberjacks stealing a 74-73 decision Saturday night. The Wildcats' Kalie Matthews hit a free throw with 0.2 seconds to send NAU to a loss in its home finale.

It would have been even easier to give in after breaking her kneecap just weeks before the start of her junior season. But that is not within Amanda Frost and that drive has elevated her to one of the greatest seasons in Northern Arizona women's basketball history.
  • Women's Basketball Falls Short to Idaho State

    FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The Northern Arizona women's basketball team fought until the end with their backs against the wall, but could not ultimately overcome a three-point deficit with 1:15 to play. Idaho State pulled out a nail biter, 72-65, Thursday night in the Skydome in a pivotal Big Sky Conference matchup for both teams. The Lumberjacks fell to 9-17 overall and 6-11 in league play and will need to win out to keep their postseason hopes alive.

    FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. - Needing a win to remain in the hunt for a Big Sky Championship tournament bid, the Northern Arizona women’s basketball team posted a historic shooting day to defeat Northern Colorado last Saturday. This week, the Lumberjacks return home for their final homestand of the season, first hosting Idaho State on Thursday before Senior Day on Saturday versus Weber State. Both games will tip off at 6:30 p.m. in the Walkup Skydome and will be the final two home contests for senior Amanda Frost.

    GREELEY, Colo. – Just two nights after their worst shooting performance of the season, the Northern Arizona women's basketball team posted a historical offensive showing on several fronts in an 86-70 victory over Northern Colorado Saturday afternoon at the Butler-Hancock Sports Pavilion. The win kept the Lumberjacks in the hunt for a Big Sky Championship berth, earning them a split of their weekend road trip and upping their record to 9-16 overall, 6-10 in conference play. It snapped a nine-game losing skid over the last four seasons to the Bears.
  • Lusain Posts Career Night in NAU's Loss at North Dakota

    GRAND FORKS, N.D. – The Northern Arizona women's basketball team struggled all night offensively, shooting a season-worst 26.5 percent in a 71-41 loss to North Dakota at the Betty Engelstad Sioux Center. The 41 points are a season-low for NAU as it fell to 5-10 in the Big Sky and 8-16 overall.

    FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. - The Northern Arizona women’s basketball team notched two critical wins at home last week and with their eyes squarely on ascending up the Big Sky standings they will hit the road once again this week. The Lumberjacks will play Big Sky leading North Dakota Thursday in Grand Forks, N.D. at 6 p.m. and then will travel to Greeley, Colo. to play Northern Colorado, one of three teams directly ahead of them in the standings, on Saturday at 2 p.m.
  • Banks' Career-Night Propels NAU to Win Over EWU

    FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The Northern Arizona closed the first half on a 7-0 run to take a two-point halftime lead and used a strong second half start to notch a 86-78 win over Eastern Washington Saturday night. The Lumberjacks (8-15, 5-9 Big sky) erased a nine-point first half deficit to record their first two-game win streak since defeating Utah Valley and UC Santa Barbara in back-to-back games on Nov. 30 and Dec. 5.
